Preventing Burnout

Holidays are the best!  They always seem to arrive at the right time, just when we need a break from our daily routines.  Just when we need time out to relax and recharge. Holidays help us take a break, both mentally and physically, from the responsibilities we carry out every day. I intend to sleep in, exercise more, hang out with friends, and read.  I do all of these things on a regular basis but holidays allow me to do them for longer, uninterrupted periods of time.  And I can do them spontaneously which adds to the fun. To me, this picture captures that wonderful unfettered feeling of freedom:  the freedom of possibility, the freedom of creativity.  I imagine myself inside the VW van, humming along on the highway.  It’s warm outside, not hot hot, and the windows are down; Janis Joplin’s great whiskey voice is singing, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose. . .” Today when I see those VW wagons driving down the highway, I am instantly reminded of my childhood in the 1960’s and the sometimes excellent adventures of being a teenager.  It was a lot fun but I don’t think I… Read More
