Summer Tune Up

A couple of days ago, I decided it was time for a summer tune up.

To me, this picture captures that wonderful unfettered feeling of freedom:  the freedom of possibility, the freedom of creativity.  I imagine myself inside the VW van, humming along on the highway.  It’s warm outside, not hot hot, and the windows are down; Janis Joplin’s great whiskey voice is singing, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose. . .” Today when I see those VW wagons driving down the highway, I am instantly reminded of my childhood in the 1960’s and the sometimes excellent adventures of being a teenager.  It was a lot fun but I don’t think I… Read More

Staying Healthy

I don’t think Halloween is considered the beginning of the holiday season, but in an unofficial way it’s the start of that time of the year when fattening goodies seem to be everywhere.  It’s a constant struggle, and for me, I really have to mentally up the ante against gaining weight and remind myself that it may taste good now but it will take a lot longer to work it off.
