I know several people who work for the federal government.

Putting aside the political debate about why the government is currently shutdown, this is a time of anxiety for many of these people and their families.

These people work hard and approach their jobs in a professional manner and now find themselves in an awful place.

Some of them who are considered to be “essential” must show up for work knowing that they will not get paid.  Others are furloughed and have no idea when they will go back to work or get paid.

800,000 federal workers and their families … Read More

Oh Those Tacky Christmas Lights!

Christmas lights take me back to the innocence of my childhood, to a time when my parents would gather me and my five siblings and put us in the station wagon with winter coats over our pajamas and we would ride around the neighborhood and look at the Christmas lights displayed on other people’s houses. Did you do that too? One of the houses on the Richmond Tacky Lights Christmas tour Photo courtesy of Richmond.com                                         Those were the days when… Read More

But we are trying hard to make… Read More

October Snowfall in NYC

November 1st, 2011

This past weekend I visited some people I love, in a city I love, even though the weather forecasters were predicting snowfall in October.  Despite the drumbeat of weather predictions, I didn’t believe it would actually happen.  I thought it might be cold enough to snow but I never thought it would actually stick to the streets and accumulate. Obviously, I was wrong.  By Sunday morning, CNN said New York City’s Central Park received 2.9 inches of snow and thousands of dollars in tree damage. Saturday morning, on the way to New York, it was heavy pounding rain.  Thank goodness… Read More
