One of my sisters sent me the video posted below that’s about Moms and the endless, loving support they give their children. In the case of this video, it shows Moms and their budding athletes in the beginning stages of learning their sports skills and then the years of repetition, the unending practice, practice, practice performed by the children until they reach the ultimate competition of the Olympics.
It’s a wonderful video, tracing the path of infants and babies falling, getting back up, trying again and again, finally learning to ice skate, snowboard and ski so that they may perform … Read More
When the news first broke a year ago that 14-year old Malala Yousafzai had been shot in the head by the Taliban while sitting in a school bus all I could imagine was the extreme fear and chaos of that terrifying moment.
How could someone be so afraid of a child on her way to school?
Just by going to school, Malala defied the Taliban and its oppressive measures directed towards women by supporting education for girls in her small village in Pakistan’s Swat Valley. That simple act made her a target. Given the extreme nature of her injuries… Read More
I am a big believer in the idea that when someone offers you a helping hand that you should turn around and offer your hand to help someone else.
It’s the right thing to do and haven’t you also found that you always get more out of life when you become actively involved and emotionally invest in it? I know I do!
I’m guessing that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor practices this same philosophy because she recently went back to her childhood roots in the Bronx, NY and spent the day with young children from the Dream Big program… Read More

I don’t always feel positive about all of the situations that life throws my way but I do feel very positive about life.
Would I continue to feel positive if I were diagnosed with cancer?
I would hope so! I would hope that my love of living, my love for my family and friends and my love of life in general would kick my fighting spirit into high gear and that I would become determined not to let cancer win.
But that’s easy for me to say because I have not been diagnosed with cancer. I know a handful of… Read More
Crying is unsettling. Especially if you are watching one of your parents do it.
My son hates it when I cry and has said that when I would cry all the time immediately after his father/my husband’s death, he would feel this mix of emotions that he didn’t want to feel and so he would walk away. I understand it and think his reaction was perfectly normal. He was thirteen years old and dealing with something that adults find hard to handle. He was just trying to survive.
Now, at twenty two years old, my son explains his… Read More
Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence
I applaud the beautiful and sensitive movie, Silver Linings Playbook, which came away from the Academy Awards last night with Jennifer Lawrence winning an Oscar for Best Actress.
I had heard a lot about this movie before I recently saw it and I blown away by it. Silver Linings Playbook definitely lived up to its reputation as a solid, slightly edgy, movie and it stands out because its story and its actors are courageous and hopeful. The movie shines a light on two subjects that make people uncomfortable: grieving and mental health, and weaves these… Read More
Happy Friday Everyone!!
It feels good to reach the end of a work week, especially when we have a three day week-end in front of us. Most of us will not have to go to work on Monday since it is Inauguration Day, the day when President Obama is sworn into his second term in the White House.
Whether you agree with President Obama’s politics or not, I think everyone would agree that it takes courage and perseverence to have a dream and then set goals necessary to try and make that dream happen.
Big dreams or small dreams, I… Read More
