Lots of great things happen to you while you are asleep.
Your skin repairs itself, your mind relaxes and resets itself and your body strengthens its immune system and reduces levels of stress. But you have to do it to reap the benefits.
These days people like to brag about how little sleep they need.  I remember reading somewhere that Martha Stewart only sleeps four hours a night.  I thought to myself, “You’ve got to be kidding!  I could never last very long if I only got four hours of sleep a night!”
Even Charlie Brown & Lucy Need To Sleep

A Positive Attitude In Cancerland

April 10th, 2013

I don’t always feel positive about all of the situations that life throws my way but I do feel very positive about life. Would I continue to feel positive if I were diagnosed with cancer? I would hope so!  I would hope that my love of living, my love for my family and friends and my love of life in general would kick my fighting spirit into high gear and that I would become determined not to let cancer win. But that’s easy for me to say because I have not been diagnosed with cancer.  I know a handful of… Read More

Robin Roberts’ Message

Robin Roberts is courageously showing us how to be “all in” about life. Over the weekend, I read Parade Magazine’s interview with Roberts, ABC’s news anchor for Good Morning America.  It is no secret that Roberts was diagnosed five years ago with an aggresive form of breast cancer and for the past year she has been fighting a rare life-threatening disease called myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) which affects the blood and bone marrow. Roberts is now back on the job which is miraculous given the physical and emotional toll of her chemotherapy, bone marrow transplant and fragile immune system.  But life… Read More

Okay.  I admit it.  I have a totally silly side: ridiculous pictures of cats and dogs crack me up. This post may seem random to you but it’s not.  It’s humor therapy!  Smiles and laughter can help us heal.  Scientists report that laughter changes our brain chemistry and boosts our immune system. We have to be able to laugh at ourselves and at humorous situations.  If we can’t find the funny side of life, then we’re in trouble. My wonderful son found this on buzzfeed.com and thought it was hysterical; which it is!!In fact, I would really love it if… Read More

California Eating

When I go grocery shopping, I like to read the labels.  I like to know what I’m eating because I think it can make a huge difference in my mental and physical health.  Healthy and fresh foods keeps  my immune system and healing powers strong which keeps me in the game. This label reading started about 10 years ago when I was very sick and my doctor put me on a strict low-fat diet.  I started reading the labels on everything: salad dressing, cereals, crackers, pudding, chicken and anything frozen.  I was really surprised by what I found but also… Read More

Go Green Tea

February 24th, 2012

I write today in support of tea power; specifically the healing power of green tea. I usually start the day with two cups of regular hot tea (Red Rose, Lipton, Tetley) and then sometimes will have another in the afternoon at work.  I’m not a coffee drinker and haven’t been since I stopped smoking decades ago.  I like the way coffee smells but it has to have a lot of hot milk in it and turn into a cappuccino before I will drink it.  Coffee ice cream is also very delicious but that’s another post. Earlier in the week, I… Read More
