Hi Resilient Readers!  Weekends go by waaaaaaay too fast don’t they?

Hopefully your weekend was just one big stress free zone!

Saturday night my son and I went to a Nationals baseball game for his upcoming birthday.  A big shout out to one of my fantastic sisters and her husband for tickets and PARKING — which is even better than tickets!!!  Our seats were great, third level behind home plate.  Here was our primo view of the game:

It’s a beautiful stadium and it’s well run, so if you ever get a chance to visit, you should go for it.

File this evening under laughing and healing.

We arrived early to check out the neighborhood around the stadium because it has radically changed since the arrival of the stadium a number of years ago.  We took a leisurely walk down to the Anacostia River to an area now called Yards Park.  Some parts are still under development but there are also large grassy areas beautifully landscaped and people were everywhere, kayaking, bicycling, playing in the fountains, jogging and just enjoying the outdoors in all its natural spendor.

I drive my car a lot during the week, so I find walking and talking to be therapeutic both mentally and physically.  And when you want to catch up with someone you really care about, in this case, my sweet son, I think this is one of the most uplifting things you can do.  You are aimlessly talking and walking along, taking in the fresh air and the riverfront views and slowly you begin to feel the stress knots untangle, your shoulders relax and you’re breathing deeper, smiling and suddenly life is feeling lighter!

Love connections — whether romantic, or felt with family and friends — are just as important as eating well and exercising.  They strengthen our hearts and fill our mental reserves with tons of positive karma.

Yay for Weekends! Plus the Nationals beat the Atlanta Braves 3-0! Whoop! Whoop!

You know, it was your Nats that beat my Giants 3 out of 4 that started their losing streak. Hopefully that ship as righted itself with 2 in a row over AZ! Seeing the picture of you and your son, and talking about taking in the neighborhood around the stadium, reminded me of going to my first baseball game with my dad (who died in 1987). It was at the old Griffith Stadium (where Howard University Hospital is now). I remember parking on a street near the park and stopping in some store on the way. The expansion Senators beat the Twins (year before had been the Senators – left just as they were starting to get good). The game is memorable not only for being my first, but being the closest I’ve ever gotten to a foul ball. Saw the movie “Field of Dreams” over the weekend. I’ve seen it dozens of times but the scene at the end where he plays catch with his dad gets me bawling like a baby every time.
