Wow! Sometimes all you need is an unscheduled block of time and the patience of a friend to hold your hand while you learn something new.

Whether we are ready or not, life brings us changes every day.  Some put us on a new road and others can be annoying potholes and puddles.  And then there are the exciting and fun changes that also come into our lives.  I don’t mind a certain amount of change.  But the stress-o-meter goes out of control for me when too much change happens at the same time  Still, I tell myself: change is gonna come.

A much needed life preserver

A much needed life preserver

Yesterday, having a friend help me with a web site change made a big, big difference.  Cry Laugh Heal has not been looking her best.  Yes, she has a calm temperament and some flashes of wisdom but not much in the way of personality.  A little too beige for my taste.

That is until my good and knowledgeable friend Nico Dodd unleashed his creative and technical Word Press know-how.  Click, click, click.  Drag, slide, save and bam! What a difference!  Cry Laugh Heal now has a new uplifting background picture along with other items to make it easier for my resilient readers to find the stories they are looking for.

I admit it.  Asking for help is not my first impulse.  I figure I should try to work it out for myself first, which can be very time consuming because I don’t really know what I am doing, which is why I need the help in the first place. Even though I do tend to learn something new from making the effort to solve a problem on my own, I usually over research and then get lost in too much information and I’m still driving in the dark without headlights.

Then I REALLY have no idea what to do.  Asking for help is also hard because I think I am bothering the person and I really don’t want to be a pain in the buttski.

But I’m learning (usually the hard way) that it’s all in the asking and friends and family always make the projects go faster, especially when it comes to technology.  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m not asking the other person to do the work for me. I am definitely open to learning and working and even laughing at my mistakes to get the problem solved.

The takeaway lesson here for me is that instead of viewing change and difficult events as steel-myself-stressful, I need to constantly remind myself that life is full of challenges and since that is the case, I don’t always have to handle them alone.  Yes, I like to think that I can solve something by myself, but just because I can doesn’t mean I should.  Right?

And saying thank you for friendship and help always goes a very, very long way so without further adieu:  thank you Nico for all of your help!!
