Valentine’s Day may be what some people call a “Hallmark Holiday” but love is always worth celebrating whether you embrace all of the commercial hoopla or just quietly light a candle, give a meaningful hug or tap out a telephone number to connect with a special person.

Love gives us hope.  Love makes us feel all tingly inside and helps our resilient hearts beat a little faster.  Love is exciting.

Love is also risky.  To find it is definitely a roll of the emotional dice and, depending on the person, you may want to immediately throw the dice.  Or as … Read More

It’s that time of year in my family. Time to celebrate the birthdays of my parents who are in their 80’s.  My Mom and Dad’s birthdays land on the calendar exactly a week apart so in the last few years my siblings and I have started celebrating their birthdays together in the interest of harmony, world peace and all that is holy. We know we are blessed to have our parents still with us and we definitely don’t take it for granted.  Not for one minute.  But sometimes it can be tricky in making sure that each birthday receives the… Read More

Today is a special day.  It’s my birthday and it’s also Elvis Presley’s birthday. Uh, Thank you. Uh, Thank you very much! I’m not wearing a tight white jumpsuit today or gold wired sunglasses and I’m not wearing my hair slicked back.  And I’m not suggesting that I can sing or act but I do find it  a lot of fun that Elvis and I share a birthday because as I was growing up it would always be in the news that Elvis was having a birthday on my birthday and of course his was always a bigger celebration! Home Sweet Home

Yesterday was a well needed luxury: a whole day spent at home. I have not had one of those days for months and I really needed it.  A day to catch my breath and try to put things back in place.  A day with no schedule.  A day of waiting for Hurricane Sandy to slam into the East Coast so I didn’t feel bad about staying inside and tending to my nest. Recently, there has been so many medical developments going on in my family that my time has been spent on more important things: other people’s health needs.  As… Read More

Let’s see…Hurricane Sandy, with all her power and threatening ability to destroy most of everything in her path, is currently working her way up the East Coast ready to hit land somewhere in the metropolitan DC area or thereabouts. The federal government has announced it is shut down for Monday and so is Amtrak, most of the  schools in DC, Maryland and northern Virginia and Metro bus and rail service. Everyone I know has gone to the grocery store, filled up their gas tanks, cleaned out their gutters and stairwells and is bracing for one horrific storm.  My son is… Read More

The Electricity of Personal Power

One of the many trees that uprooted after Washington, DC storms Over the past several weeks, my neighborhood has lost electrical power several times for varying periods of time. Maybe you’ve read about the very sudden and very strong storms that recently have hit the Washington, DC area.  It’s been very scary and frustrating.  We are still recovering from the last storm that hit over a week ago: some people in Bethesda and Rockville, Maryland are still without power and have been without power for over a week.  Pretty unbelievable right? You should read the news stories and tweets about… Read More
