Hit The Road

Road trips are part of the American way of life.

Maybe this weekend you, your friends or family have a road trip planned to take advantage of this transitional time of year: picking out your special pumpkins, checking out the leaves turning glorious reds and yellows or just visiting a new destination.

Road trips can help us recharge our inner selves.  You know.  That inner voice.  That oh so precious deep core of ourselves that keeps us one with the horizon and helps us process the ups and downs of this beautiful and crazy trip called life.

Beautiful Deserted Rehoboth Beach Hey everyone!  Hope your weekend was full of unlimited amounts good times or at least full of what one of my guy friends calls antics! Mine certainly was!! Three of my best friends treated me to a weekend at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware and it was a blast; and I don’t mean a blast of wintery cold but a blast of the healing powers of true friendship!!  Snow and ice and chilly winds surrounded us in our 23 degree climate — because after all it is January on the East Coast — but we didn’t care… Read More

Mother Nature is one smart cookie. She has given us natural remedies for anxiety, stress and other ailments but instead we choose to try and manufacture something that we think will be better; something that is usually full of chemicals and ends up causing environmental problems or making us sick. Let’s see…Hurricane Sandy, with all her power and threatening ability to destroy most of everything in her path, is currently working her way up the East Coast ready to hit land somewhere in the metropolitan DC area or thereabouts. The federal government has announced it is shut down for Monday and so is Amtrak, most of the  schools in DC, Maryland and northern Virginia and Metro bus and rail service. Everyone I know has gone to the grocery store, filled up their gas tanks, cleaned out their gutters and stairwells and is bracing for one horrific storm.  My son is… Read More

Farmers Are The Best!

Elmer’s Fresh Veggies Sadly, my vacation has come to an end and as I drive home I’m thinking about and running through my head all the fun and relaxing  things that I had a chance to do: eating delicious steamed crabs at Mickey’s, swimming in the ocean, sleeping in, finishing a powerful book titled Mary’s Mosaics, shopping at the outlets and hanging out with great friends. But the drive home also has a time-honored ritual that I look forward to:  stopping at a farmer’s stand to buy fresh, fresh, fresh vegetables and fruit. When I was a child, my parents… Read More
