Take some time for quiet thought today.
Your inner person deserves it!
When you get free from certain fixed
concepts of the way the world is, you find
it is far more subtle, and far more miraculous
than you thought it was.

Hunk A Hunk A Birthday Fun

January 8th, 2014

Today is a special day.  It’s my birthday and it’s also Elvis Presley’s birthday. Uh, Thank you. Uh, Thank you very much! I’m not wearing a tight white jumpsuit today or gold wired sunglasses and I’m not wearing my hair slicked back.  And I’m not suggesting that I can sing or act but I do find it  a lot of fun that Elvis and I share a birthday because as I was growing up it would always be in the news that Elvis was having a birthday on my birthday and of course his was always a bigger celebration! Elvis… Read More

As I awake to the beginnings of a new day and a new year, I feel the air is crackling with the sense of possibilities. Let us embrace the unknown and untried. Let us go forward, secure in the knowledge that we are resilient. We can gain strength from our pain and, in turn, we will help others in their journey. For we are truly better together!  … Read More

Confessions of A Mediocre Widow By Catherine Tidd

December 20th, 2013

The title of Catherine Tidd’s new book suggests she is a mediocre widow. Don’t believe it for one second. Catherine Tidd is quite the opposite.  Catherine Tidd is in fact a courageous, smart and very funny woman in search of herself and an entirely different life while raising three young children after the death of her beloved husband, Brad, in a tragic motorcycle accident in 2007. Her book is refreshing and down-to-earth and is full of painful and funny personal insights about what happened to her after the death of her spouse: the hospital, the funeral, her in-laws, the whole… Read More

My new thing is to listen to Alicia Key’s “Girl On Fire” CD on my way to work. Alicia Keys is amazing!  I have loved her music from the first time I heard her groundbreaking song, “Fallin”,  on the radio about 10 years ago.  I didn’t know who she was but I googled and youtubed until I found out.  I have been lucky enough to see her perform live twice and that is the best!! Alicia Keys “Girl On Fire” CD She has a beautiful, smooth, soulful voice, is an incredible songwriter and her music pulls you into some kind… Read More

It’s All About Our Stuff

Earlier this week I wrote about finding my deceased husband’s tweed jacket in the back of a guest room closet and what it felt like to discover it. Now, unfortunately, it’s time to say good-bye to his Irish wool jacket.  It doesn’t fit my son and the jacket doesn’t really hold any special meaning for him.  Even though it once belonged to my husband, I have arrived at that point in my life where I know I can’t save everything that holds meaning for me.  Some things you just have to set free into the universe. In my head, I … Read More

Step Into Every Blessed Second of Life

I know today is Wednesday and that I have to go to work. But other than that, I really don’t know what the day has in store for me. I’m sure I will talk to someone in my family and maybe also talk to one of my good friends, and I will work hard today to get some tasks accomplished in the office that need my attention. Some of what happens today is up to me. How will I react as I drive to work? Will I keep a smart remark to myself or feel the need to blurt it… Read More

Widow Chick

I don’t know the woman who writes the amazing blog called “Widow Chick” but I feel as if I do. She (aka Catherine) is to-the-core honest and humorous in writing about her daily travels as a widow and a woman who is trying to be Mom and Dad to three young children.  I regularly read her blog and it always gives me a boost! Widow Chick’s Husband Yesterday she wrote a particularly touching post about an important anniversary in her life and I would like to share it with you because she is right on point in expressing her thoughts… Read More

Embrace Your Journey

“Embrace Your Journey.” You may have wondered why that phrase is listed at the top of my blog underneath the title, “Cry, Laugh, Heal. “ “Embrace Your Journey” is something called a tagline, a phrase to give you — my fantastic, wonderful and supportive readers — a heads up about the things that I’m going to write about.  Things that have helped me to slowly but surely work my way through the loss of my husband, learn to be both mother and father to a young son and develop resilience.  “Embrace Your Journey” helps me to set a tone of… Read More
