Today I reluctantly come back to the real world.

I have been living as Beach Bum Girl for the past week and loving every minute of it.  To say that the beach is my Happy Place is an understatement.  Every year I return to the same beach with family and friends so that I may slow down and embrace the simple and beautiful ways of living near the shore.

Hopefully a vacation of some sort is in your summer plans.  We all need to spend time away from our work routines and relax because it’s important for maintaining good … Read More

Hi there Resilient Readers! I’ve been off the grid for a bit and recently returned home from being on much needed vacation.  I must say that I absolutely adored every lazy minute of it! Photo By Ryan O’Toole Chances are you have or are about to have the opportunity to take some time off for yourself this summer and move into a chill out zone.  Whether we travel anywhere or not, we all need down time to refresh and renew ourselves. From the beginning of my vacation until the end, I was totally off my usual work/home schedule and my… Read More

What Day Is It?

Vacation. Isn’t it a great word? Although it’s a verb, the word vacation doesn’t evoke action to me.  When I hear the word vacation I think about the air being let out of a balloon.  Or exhaling slowly. I am in vacation right now and I feel blessed to be having one.  I am off-schedule, under the radar and very much unplugged, living in an alternate universe of sleeping in, eating and reading books whenever I want and not knowing what time it is. Or even what day it is.  I haven’t turned on the television in days.  What a… Read More

Ireland’s Scenic Coastline You know when you discover something for yourself and you can’t wait to share it with your friends? Well, that’s the way I feel about Ireland. I haven’t been back to Ireland for years but I will never forget the trip that I made with my husband.  Fantastic and magical from beginning to end.  I was very sad to leave. And now one of my sisters and her husband are flying to Ireland today and I’m so envious! I am also excited for them for I know that once they land in Dublin tomorrow they will forget… Read More

Life Is Better At The Beach

I slowly close my eyes, take a deep breath and listen to the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves as they continuously break on the shore. Happily I feel the sun’s warm rays melt the tangle of stress webs in my brain and throughout my body and tell myself that I know for sure that the beach is a magical place!!! The sign pictured below is not a cliche. It’s the absolute salty and sandy truth!… Read More

Go Go’s Album Cover Featuring the hit song “Vacation” Vacation All I ever wanted Vacation Had to get away. . . Vacation lyrics by: Kathy Valentine/Charlotte Caffey/Jane Wiedlin Having been in the workforce for decades, I am familiar with watching people work themselves sick.  Literally. I believe in hard work but I also believe in vacations. . . BIG TIME!  You can’t work hard unless you take breaks and allow yourself some healing and recharging space.  Vacations aren’t luxuries.  They are very necessary for helping you live longer.  Even if you don’t go anywhere, you deserve unscheduled time away from… Read More

Summer’s Journey

Usually by this time of the year, I have committed to the dates for taking a vacation with my son.  But this year is different. Now that my son has graduated from college and started his new paying job (love to be able to say paying job), we both are pretty sure that the rest of the summer will be different from other summers.  Since he isn’t living at home and his job requires him to work on Saturdays, it’s a pretty good bet that our usual August vacation isn’t going to happen. But we are trying hard to make… Read More

One Hilarious Beach Memory

Photo By Emily Noonan My son and I vacation at Bethany Beach, the same beach we have been enjoying since he was a toddler.  It’s also the same beach where I vacationed as a child.  This conjures up all sorts of memories for both of us and it gives my son a sense of stability.  We can’t imagine going anywhere else. The first time we vacationed in Bethany after my husband’s death, it was jarring, but we stayed positive and survived.  I had some meltdowns but they were in private.  More importantly, keeping up the vacation tradition gave us confidence… Read More
