There is nothing like a farmer’s market.  I am totally into them.

You can ask anyone who knows me about how much I love to either walk to a farmer’s market or pull the car over to the side of the road to check one out.

Some of my favorites include the farmer’s market in Bethany Beach, Delaware and the farmer’s market located in one of New York City’s great public space, Union Square.

Yesterday was the season opener for the farmer’s market near my office in Washington, DC so you know I was a happy person as … Read More

Celebrity’s Healing Breakfasts

When I was a young girl in elementary school, my favorite breakfast was a cinnamon twist doughnut and orange juice. My father was the “Doughnut Man” on Sundays and would ask me and my five siblings what kind of doughnuts we wanted and then he would bring them back for us warmed up in a large white baker’s box.  I still have a thing for cinnamon cake doughnuts but I hardly ever indulge in those bad boys. YAY!!! The farmer’s market near the White House is now open for business on Thursdays and I’m so happy that fresh fruits and veggies are close to my office, ready to be picked and enjoyed. I’m so proud of myself! I took these pics myself! As I arrived today, there was almost a party atmosphere at the market today around 1 pm.  When I walked to the market area, which is one block from the White House (www.freshfarmmarkets.org), there were almost 200 people shopping and sampling local produce.  People were spilling out of their office buildings, shaking off the cold… Read More

If kale is so good for you then why does it taste so bad? I am trying to eat more kale this year because everywhere I look I see articles about the incredible health benefits of eating more kale.  Kale is that dark leafy green vegetable that you find in the same section of the grocery store where the lettuce is shelved.  It looks like it would taste good but it’s deceiving.  At least it is to me. According to WebMD, kale is a powerful antioxidant, kale is high in fiber, kale has zero grams of fat, kale lowers cholesterol,… Read More

Discovering Kris Carr

A relative who is also a close friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and while visiting her she introduced me to the awesome books written by The New York Times best-selling author Kris Carr. I don’t know how I missed her but I am now totally taken with her philosophy of assessing your personal priorities in order to successfully battle cancer and become a “wellness warrior.” Carr’s blueprint for self-examination helps you to take stock of how much you actually exercise (not enough), what you actually eat (room for improvement) and what you should eat (more veggies) to how… Read More
