Nighty Night?

The change in seasons has been taking me for a bit of a roller coaster ride lately and I am ready to get off.
I can’t quite put my finger on what is bringing about all of these conflicting feelings but I am determined not to let them get the best of me.  Some of it, I think, has to do with the sun beginning to set earlier now but I think the other factors may be a prolonged lack of sleep and a lot of family stuff rolling around in my brain.  I know I am tired and I … Read More

Joy Of Motion

Blogging plus my full-time job equals too much time in front of the computer. When I am involved in a deadline project and super concentrated on what I am doing, it is very easy for me to lose track of time and forget to move from my chair.  Sitting at my desk for hours on end may help me get my work done, but researchers also say it increases my chances of getting diabetes, heart disease and shortening my life.  So as comfy as it feels to sit or hang out on the couch, I’ve got to get moving. Because … Read More

Truly Breathing

Breathing, centering, finding my inner peace.  That is what today is about. Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk, author, poet and peace activist. Just typing the combination of those words makes me feel calmer. I know that somewhere, under all the rushing and running around and multi-tasking is a peaceful inner core, and my aim is to find it. But first I have to create the conditions to get to it. What is the hurry? With the help of Thich Nhat Hanh’s quote below, I will decrease the speed with which I am living my life.  I… Read More

Here’s A Truth

Here’s a truth:  when I write about the importance of being positive and finding positive inspiration in our lives and the idea of finding and doing new things, sometimes it is as much for me as it is for you. Please don’t ever get the idea that I always have it together and that I am always able to just forge ahead with my life without any hesitations or second guessing or ever feeling inadequate.  I have those feelings just as anyone.  Those feelings tend to sneak up on me when I least suspect it and I fight hard to… Read More

Dear Sugar. . . You Make It So Much Better!

Cheryl Strayed is one of my favorite authors.  I discovered her when I received her New York Times best seller, Wild, as a present this past Christmas.  From the first page, I was all in and couldn’t stop reading and definitely didn’t want her journey in Wild to end. I was totally drawn into every aspect of her memoir and in reading Wild, came to respect the amount of introspection and hard work she put herself through to bring that compelling story out of herself. No other writer that I know of delivers the goods about life and loss the… Read More

When you consider the amount of emotional baggage we all carry around with us, it is amazing that we find love. Wounded though our hearts may be, we cannot fight the attraction and pull of another person who catches our fancy. Maybe you have been lucky and found love more than once. I found love with a small l a few times, but found love with a capital L only once.  It’s an amazing, powerful, crazy thing this love emotion that takes us over and keeps us going and truly defines our lives.  It is not to be treated lightly,… Read More

When I find myself getting close to sensory overload, I seek out quiet places to sit, to refresh and chill out. After Monday’s tragic shooting and killing of 13 people in the Washington Navy Yard, I truly needed a break from being bombarded with images and information.  Sitting in nature helps bring my focus back to what is important to me about the big picture of life. As I notice and enjoy what is around me, I remind myself that I can’t change the fact that highly stressful events happen, but I can change how I interpret and respond to… Read More

My new thing is to listen to Alicia Key’s “Girl On Fire” CD on my way to work. Alicia Keys is amazing!  I have loved her music from the first time I heard her groundbreaking song, “Fallin”,  on the radio about 10 years ago.  I didn’t know who she was but I googled and youtubed until I found out.  I have been lucky enough to see her perform live twice and that is the best!! Alicia Keys “Girl On Fire” CD She has a beautiful, smooth, soulful voice, is an incredible songwriter and her music pulls you into some kind… Read More

Staying healthy is job one for me. Every healthy tip that I can incorporate into my life is just one more thing that may keep me out of the doctor’s office as far as I am concerned.  I try to eat foods that are as fresh as possible, exercise whenever I can and verbalize my stress so that it doesn’t remain bottled up inside me and cause some kind of sickness.Recently I added a new health concern to my wellness list: avoiding plastics and/or preservatives. For years I used to bring frozen food products (read Lean Cuisine) to the office and… Read More
