Peace Out

We live in crazy times my friends, with election talk this week seeming to bombard us everywhere we go.

Since I live in Washington, DC, where politics and government are considered our main industries, I usually don’t bring up the election as a topic of conversation unless someone else asks me first.  People are pretty polarized and the election is not the kind of thing that you toss out casually as you are waiting in line at the grocery story or talking to a bank teller or an Uber driver.   Chatting with someone you don’t know very well about either … Read More

Finding Your Community

You’re in the mood to go out.  Maybe go see a movie.  Maybe get a drink. But as a suddenly single, widowed or recently divorced person you might find that your usual go-to friends are busy and you aren’t enthusiastic about going out by yourself. It’s not that you can’t do it because you’ve done it before.  You’ve done it because you hate to think that you won’t do something just because you don’t have anyone to do it with. You went out by yourself to prove that you could and it was okay but not great.  It … Read More

Honey Lavender Lemonade — Recipe

I was looking through my Instagram feed earlier this week and a picture popped up that was so totally out of season that it made me burst out laughing.  The picture was an almost arctic scene of the infamous Flatiron Building in New York City during a winter blizzard. The contradiction of standing outside during the dog days of August while holding my phone and looking at a picture of the winter wind whipping people dressed in coats, hats, boots and gloves, walking with their heads down, knee deep in snow, as they tried to find shelter from the unforgiving… Read More

Real Life Re-Entry

Today I reluctantly come back to the real world. I have been living as Beach Bum Girl for the past week and loving every minute of it.  To say that the beach is my Happy Place is an understatement.  Every year I return to the same beach with family and friends so that I may slow down and embrace the simple and beautiful ways of living near the shore. Hopefully a vacation of some sort is in your summer plans.  We all need to spend time away from our work routines and relax because it’s important for maintaining good… Read More

Summer Tune Up

July 11th, 2016

A couple of days ago, I decided it was time for a summer tune up. I sit in front of a computer for my job and even though I try to get up and move around every couple of hours, I know it’s not a healthy routine.  I constantly struggle with my weight and also with making sure that I am exercising enough.  So last week, knowing that I am capable of doing much more, I decided it was time to change things up a bit in order to feel healthier. Instead of doing my regular after work routine… Read More

A New Delicious Season

There is nothing like a farmer’s market.  I am totally into them. You can ask anyone who knows me about how much I love to either walk to a farmer’s market or pull the car over to the side of the road to check one out. Some of my favorites include the farmer’s market in Bethany Beach, Delaware and the farmer’s market located in one of New York City’s great public space, Union Square. Yesterday was the season opener for the farmer’s market near my office in Washington, DC so you know I was a happy person as… Read More

What a freakin’ roller coaster of a week! Since I feel a bit spun around by the events of the last few days, it’s difficult today to put my thoughts into a few simple declarative sentences. Instead I found this dreamy picture. I really wish I were sitting in this car right now, smelling the fresh salt air and letting the warm ocean breeze play through my hair knowing that I could open the door, run to the beach and go swimming. But since I’m not really sitting in this car, I can do the next best thing:  imagine… Read More

Thriving In Fresh Air

Fresh air is necessary.  It delivers oxygen and new thoughts to our souls and helps us begin again. It’s that feeling that you get when you have been working inside for awhile and then you go outside, take a really deep breath and feel renewed. Yes.  I think I can go on. Fresh air.  Open the windows and let old frustrations escape and fly away while welcoming the new fresh spring air. We need it for our well being to grow and thrive. Fresh air gives us strength and resolve to stay on track. I came upon this uplifting… Read More

Everyone’s A Paddy Today!

When my son was in kindergarten, his wonderful teacher had a great way for the children to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. She took all of the last names of the boys and girls in his class and wrote them on shamrocks made of green construction paper and then as an added surprise, she added either “Mc” or “O'” in front of the names to make everyone feel they were Irish.  Just to give you an idea, Smith would become McSmith or O’Smith.  Then she taped the shamrocks to the front of the kindergarten entrance for the whole school… Read More
