You have to speak
Your dream out loud.
               ~ Kelly Corrigan

Today is good news about holding on to your dreams and never giving up on them.

At the beginning of this year, I wrote about a dream of mine: to upgrade my kitchen

And guess what?  It is finally happening!!

True to Kelly Corrigan’s inspirational saying above, I kept talking about it, researching it, saving for it and finally reached the point of giving the project a green light.  It’s been a bit scary watching the kitchen be totally demolished (I haven’t had a working oven, … Read More

Lots of children and parents in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia are waking up earlier than usual this morning and wondering what happened to the easy breezy days of summer.  They are looking at the calendar and staring at today’s date and thinking, “How did this happen?  How could today be the first day of school?” A new school year is time to look forward with a sense of hope.  It’s a chance to do things a little different and a little better.  First days of anything offer the opportunity for a fresh start.  Of course, there may also be… Read More

“There’s a bright, golden haze on the meadowThere’s a bright, golden haze on the meadow. The corn is as high as an elephant’s eyeAnd it looks like it’s climbing clear up to the sky.” Lyrics to “Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin’ ” by Oscar Hammerstein II Walking among the farmer’s stalls yesterday, my eyes were in search of corn on the cob.  Specifically, the kind of corn on the cob that you can only get in August when the corn is white and oh so sweet and when you eat it it feels like it goes to your very core to… Read More

Woo! Woo! Readers!! I can see the weekend on the horizon!! And for Friday’s sake, we need a good laugh! Plain ole silly laughter just lightens our burdens and gives us a break from sadness and pain.  Even in the most difficult of times, laughter continually gives me the strength to keep going and hope for better days. I do have a tendency to make jokes about most of the things that happen to me and I think it just helps make me feel that the day will go smoother if I can laugh.  We all are familiar with that… Read More

3 Reasons For An Essential Break

I’ve been cranky.  I’ve been restless. I need a time out. Don’t send me to a corner.  Instead, please send me to the beach. The beach is my healing place.  My happy place. It’s the place where I fill up my emotional reserves (which are now entering the red warning zone indicating that I am almost out of fuel and will soon be operating on fumes) and also let all of the kinks and stress knots in my body unwind and hopefully disappear. This is my wordy way of telling you that I am going on vacation and intend to… Read More

Musical Strength

Music can be an unexpected source of strength. Athletes use songs and soundtracks to help them focus prior to competition.  It’s pretty common to see athletes staring straight ahead in the locker room with their ear buds in place or warming up with ear buds and you know that whatever they are listening to is helping them get into some kind of a performance zone, taking them to a place where they can block out unnecessary thoughts and noise. I know that when I go for a walk or a run or a combination of the two, that listening to… Read More

On the last Friday in June, here’s something to think about:    The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and with out fear for newer and richer experience                             ~   Eleanor Roosevelt… Read More

Farmer In The Dell

I love farmer’s markets. Everything about them fascinates me.  I slow down and totally lose track of time as I enjoy walking from vendor to vendor and talking to each one of them about the unique products they are selling whether it’s veggies, fruits, honey, cheeses, breads, soaps or food being cooked to order. Yesterday it truly felt as if the weather had turned a corner and while it was a bit chilly the sun was bright and increasingly warm as the day progressed.  People with their children and dogs and friends and neighbors strolled and chatted each other up… Read More

Dance Walking

I don’t know about you, but now that the weather is getting a little warmer and I’m shedding my layers of winter, I’m feeling way out of shape. Too much time spent sitting in front of the computer.  Too many afternoons noshing on comfort food. A new season means moving is the name of the game for me and I think this You Tube video below showing how to Dance Walk is the perfect way to kickstart some outdoor motion and burning off those almighty calories! Even if you don’t need to tone up, check out this Dance Walk video… Read More
