When I feel my internal stress-o-meter starting to rise, then I know it’s time to find something that will make me laugh.

Big time.

Something that will make me forget that life can sometimes feel like a pressure cooker.

Laughing immediately releases tension for me and it also allows me to put what is causing my stress into perspective.  Which means that I am trying to let myself know that the stress causer is not important and shouldn’t be using my valuable energy.

Translation: it’s no big whoop so I need to move on and find something funny that will … Read More

Ew! It’s Funny Friday

What a whirl of a week this had been.  Deadlines. Pressure.  Meltdowns.  Not me.  Others. You’re familiar with this kind of dynamic aren’t you?  I know you must be because there is no way that this kind of stuff only happens to me. How do I deal?  (Did I hear someone say booze?) No my friends I don’t drink but I do make a lot of jokes about being in really awful situations because humor helps me cope.  I constantly make jokes about myself — and believe me there’s a lot of material there — and I also make jokes… Read More

Billy Crystal — Did You Hear The One About The Dentist?

The dentist.  Oy Vay! I went to the dentist yesterday morning for a teeth cleaning and I’m soooo glad it’s over.  My dentist is a really nice guy and tries to make it as painless as possible but I really hate going.  I try to do all the things you’re supposed to do to take care of your teeth but in the end, it’s just so boring.  A dentist visit may be healing but there was definitely no laughing or crying going on during my appointment.Just relief! I think it’s a bit of a carryover from having many teeth extracted… Read More

Steve Martin Remembers His Father

Comedian Steve Martin in 2011 Comedian Steve Martin is obviously an incredibly multi-talented, award-winning funny guy. To me, Steve Martin is one of those celebrities that I just accept as being the way they are as they present themselves in their work.  I don’t think of him as a little boy or as having parents.  He is who he is as he appears in the roles of his television and his film work. To the public, Steve Martin is the hysterical stand-up comedian who played the “wild and crazy guy” and many other characters on Saturday Night Live or he… Read More

Cecily Strong as Party Girl There are too many stressful things happening in my family right now that I can’t write about but believe me when I tell you that a good laugh must happen in order for me to feel better about life and the people I care about!  And when I need a good laugh I know I can always count on NBC’s hysterical and infamous Saturday Night Live to make it happen. Without further adieu, here are the multi-talented comedians, Cecily Strong… Read More

Buddy The Elf

A baby boy crawls into Santa’s satchel of presents and travels back with him to the North Pole….. So begins the wonderful story of “Elf,” a classic Christmas movie which captures the spirit of innocence and hope.  If you’ve never see “Elf,” I highly recommend it. With a new year right around the corner, there is no reason for us to abandon the uplifting feeling of the holidays just because Christmas and Hanukkah are over. Comedian Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf I have watched “Elf” many times when it it isn’t even close to the holiday season just because… Read More

Life In The Intersection Laughter really and truly is the best medicine and my prescription for you on this wintery Wednesday is the following hysterical “letter” from a ficititous grandmother that was published in a community newsletter. Traffic in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia metro area) is notoriously horrendous and after hearing the driving stories on the news and from friends who traveled by car over the Thanksgiving holiday, this story had me laughing out loud and nothing is better for dissolving stress and anxiety than a good laugh. As a note, someone wrote this “letter” to… Read More

Insight from Bridesmaids

January 20th, 2012

One of the reasons the movie, Bridesmaids, is such a run-away hit is that women either know one of the characters or they see themselves in one of the characters. It’s also an insightful movie about the ups and downs of female friendships. Multi-talented comedian Kristen Wiig plays Annie, a 30ish, single young woman who has hit a rough spot in her life.  Nothing is working.  Her boyfriend uses her, she gets fired from her job, her car breaks down all the time, she moves in with her mother and on top of all that her best friend is getting… Read More
