It’s Christmas Eve!  Can you believe it?

In some ways, I think Christmas Eve is more magical than Christmas Day.

Maybe it’s the anticipation. . .

Here are a few pictures showing the wonder of Christmas that I find comforting.

I hope they bring comfort and joy to you too!

Merry Christmas!!

Pip Singing Ouch!  Is it really Monday? Four days off from work have been so great, can I repeat so great, for my mind and my soul!!  I went for some walks, did some yard work, caught up on my sleep, saw family and friends on Thanksgiving Day, did a little Christmas shopping and went to the movies and saw the new James Bond movie, “Skyfall.”  It is excellent!! You really must see it if you haven’t already. But now I have Monday staring me in the face along with a brand new work week.  How do I get motivated… Read More

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 22nd, 2012

Today is a day Americans set aside to gather with family, friends or both, bow our heads and give thanks for the blessings God has given us. It is wonderful to have the day off from work and I am busy this morning making my part of the Thanksgiving dinner: homemade mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.  Because these two dishes are so important to the classic Thanksgiving dinner, I take a lot of care in preparing them and enjoy watching people gobble them up. I started making homemade cranberry sauce years ago after I was served this particular cranberry sauce… Read More

Beers With Friends

A good friend of mine posted the below story on her Facebook page but there was no source of authorship so I don’t know who wrote it or where it came from. But I thought it was wonderful story, definitely asking me to think about how I spend my time and how I prioritize my life: family, friends, my health, my passions.  Do I get a sense of meaning from my work, daily activities and relationships?  Maybe I am letting the small stuff get in the way of the more important stuff? It’s always healthy to reassess yourself. I try… Read More

A Cartful of Gratitude

Photo Courtesy of Williams Sonoma Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you and to give thanks continuously.  And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Just like most Americans, I went to the grocery store this weekend to buy food to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner. The store was crowded and the shelves were stocked with all of the things that I buy at this particular time of year: pumpkin, cream cheese, spices, nuts and cranberries.  Depending on the aisle I… Read More

Now Is Powerful

Photo By Patti Raab When I was in my twenties, I felt as though I had all the time in the world to do whatever it was I wanted to do.  I think that feeling was the luxury of youth.  I had no sense of needing to get things done urgently because if it didn’t happen today I was confident that I would get another chance tomorrow.  There would always be tomorrow for a do-over, if you will. “See you tomorrow!” “Oh, I’ll tell you about that later.” “Yeah we have to find a date and then we’ll do it. … Read More

Grounded To The Ground

Staying Grounded Have you seen that television commercial where the couple is test driving a new car in the desert and then later someone off camera asks them why they liked it? The man says something about wheel rims on the tires and the way the car felt when he was driving it and then the woman says more good stuff about the car and ends the commercial by saying it felt “grounded to the ground.”  The guy off camera can’t believe she has expressed herself this way and he repeats “grounded to the ground” as though it were a… Read More

Snoopy at typewriter sharing his memories A very good friend recently came over to my house to drop off some things.  It was a Saturday and she was out running errands and my house was on her route.  We both were trying to get things done so it was your usual routine drop off and chat for a few minutes to check in and see what’s going on with each other. Hi. How are you? Great.  What’s going on? Not much.  So and so called me.  Listen to this… She has been in my house tons of times and everything… Read More

Two Surprises in 24 Hours

Sometimes rebuilding your life is just plain hard.  Today’s choices are not the choices I want and, try as I might, I can’t steer things to go in the direction I want. This post is not about whining.  That would be unproductive. Instead, this post is about how I still need to work on being patient.  Life is about grabbing opportunities but then it is about dealing with what it feels like when the opportunity doesn’t work out the way you planned.  It’s about the twists and turns of life and how I need to get better at accepting and… Read More
