Don’t Wait — Put It In Writing

When we miss someone, we sometimes search for something they gave us, such as a handwritten note, or something that belonged to them, such as a piece of clothing.  Seeing, touching and even smelling something they once used helps us feel closer, as though the person were with us.

Whether the person died or moved away, you are feeling sad and you need to find something that will help you work through this lonely moment and perhaps even help you feel stronger for the future.  Handwritten letters or cards are particularly valuable.  I think everyone has a letter tucked away … Read More

Summertime Sayings

Courtesy of Katie’s Pencil Box Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.                                                       ~ Ada Louise Huxtable… Read More

Uber Fun

Courtesy of Uber Earlier this week, I was surprised with the opportunity of using an Uber car to get from a business meeting back to my office.  It was so pleasant and so efficient compared to my usual crazy experience in a Washington, DC taxicab or using the Metro.  I wish Uber could be my permanent way of getting around town! Sometimes part of the healing experience can be when someone does something out-of-the-blue unexpected and nice for you and you just sit back and enjoy it.  Besides, Resilient Readers, you are the best and I have to share with… Read More

Earth Angels

Many years ago, one of my aunts generously gave me a book about people’s first-hand experiences with angels called Angel Letters by Sophy Burnham. Burnham previously had written the bestseller, A Book of Angels, which was so popular that hundreds of people wrote to Burnham about their encounters with angels.  Burnham took these letters and with the permission of the writers, published their letters and used people’s real names. “Since finishing A Book of Angels I have come to a personal belief:  that we live surrounded by ghosts, by spirits, not only in our imagination, as metaphors of our past,… Read More

To market, To market

Photo by katieleekitchen If it’s Thursday, then it must be White House Farmer’s Market Day! Beautiful, juicy strawberries, freshly washed pesticide-free kale and farm grown tomatoes were all lined up on the tables today and looking fabulous.  It’s a treat for me to get out of the office and feel the warm welcoming sun on my face as I walk the four blocks to the market, one of the city’s many farmer’s markets where people can consistently find unlimited and natural nutrients. Today there was a new vendor.  I didn’t see the name of the farm but I believe it… Read More

The Fear of Tears

Earlier this week, my son and I were reminiscing about our journey through the college and high school years that occurred immediately after his father’s/my husband’s death and in the midst of talking we started laughing about a period of time that was quite painful and confusing for us. What’s up with that? It surprised us that this happened and I thought I would share this experience with my wonderful readers because it might help someone to know that there is always hope and that things can turn themselves around when you least expect it.  If our conversation helps someone… Read More

Michele Woodward — Managing Change

Michele Woodward I’m always on the look out for people who have positive insights about life and its many surprises.  An office friend told me about Michele Woodward and how she is a fantastic life coach.  I read her blog (www.michelewoodward.com) and have found that she almost always presents a fresh perspective on how to get out there and do whatever it is I need or want to do. Michele doesn’t just talk the talk.  She has also walked the walk.  She is a divorced mother of two teenaged children, so her down-to-earth advice is not clean and dry theory;… Read More

Irish Soda Bread

Hi My Faithful Readers, I am going in a different direction today and I hope you are okay with it… Whether you’re cooking corned beef, cabbage and potatoes der boy or you’re stewing some beef and Guinness, a freshly baked loaf of Irish Soda bread will lend a touch of the old country to your St. Patrick’s Day celebration. I grew up in a large family of six children and we ate A LOT of Irish soda bread.  My favorite way to eat soda bread is when it’s still warm from the oven with lots of orange marmalade spread on… Read More
