Healing.

What a great word!  When I say it or think about it, I feel warm inside, as though I just ate a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.

Our opportunities to find healing are all around us, just waiting for us to reach out.  We can let the passage of time take its own course by hoping, hoping, hoping that healing feelings will eventually wash over us or we can act on trying to heal our inner selves when we feel ready to face the sad or traumatic feelings that we carry in our hearts.  Feeling the pain and talking … Read More

Dear Resilient Friends: I have been away for awhile but have not forgotten about you.  2017 started off in a difficult direction for my family.  Both of our parents have been ill, requiring hospitalization and additional involvement from me and my five siblings.  We are striving every day to do our best to give loving care and attention to both parents, splitting our time between the hospital and our parents house often amidst a swirl of new medical terms and medicines while we carry on with our jobs and other personal responsibilities. We are trying to ease their pain… Read More

Finding My Place

There are many reasons why I look forward to my yoga class, but the thing that always brings me back over and over is its ability to help me find my place. By the time I arrive at my class, I usually feel emotionally and physically scattered from work and whatever is going on in my wacky life.  I always start my days with the best of intentions and I try to use my time wisely but somehow things unravel and then I find I am trouble shooting some unexpected crisis.  Of course, there are some days when things go… Read More

How was your Memorial Day weekend?  Having that extra day was the best! I hope it was relaxing and the holiday weekend went pretty much the way you had planned it. Before I continue with thoughts about Memorial Day weekend, let me say I am feeling bad about being away from Cry Laugh Heal recently and not posting as often as I would prefer.  I have not forgotten AT ALL about you or the ongoing dialogue we’ve started about working through our grief feelings while also trying to create new lives after the death of a loved one. However, I… Read More

I confess that I am one of those people who will walk into a store and use it to help me decompress from a stressful situation. I don’t always buy something to make me feel better but I will enter a store and browse around for a good twenty minutes with the intention of being distracted, so that I can forget, at least for a short period of time, about what I am trying to handle. I think just the act of just being in a different place with different vibes contributes to helping me loosen up.  It helps me… Read More

The Name Game

I am dating myself by asking you this question but it’s for a sweet reason so I’m going to go with it. Do you remember a popular song called The Name Game? It was a big hit when I was a young girl.  In fact, it was a huge hit that aired on the radio constantly.  My friends, siblings and I used to sing it ALL THE TIME because it was so absolutely silly.  We rode a big yellow school bus to elementary school five days a week from our house and I remember for a number of months we… Read More

Simply Satisfying Friday

There is something about the word simple that makes me feel at ease. I’m not sure why it makes me feel that way but it does. Simple.  As in streamlined.  As in efficient.  As in making sure that a lot of superfluous stuff doesn’t get in the way of finding a well worn path to tranquility. As in breaking down complicated situations and keeping them simple. It’s a word that I hang on to when life gives me a lot to handle. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that information overload is currently the ongoing theme… Read More

I was reading an article recently on personal growth and wellness and a phrase caught my attention. “…have faith in your ability and accept all that comes your way.” Hmmmmm.  Accept all that comes my way.  I know I have no choice but to accept whatever happens in my life but it’s not always easy to take it as it comes, accept it and move on.  For while I may believe I have the skills or the ability to handle certain situations, I find I am at a point in my life when I would rather not deal with it… Read More

A New Delicious Season

There is nothing like a farmer’s market.  I am totally into them. You can ask anyone who knows me about how much I love to either walk to a farmer’s market or pull the car over to the side of the road to check one out. Some of my favorites include the farmer’s market in Bethany Beach, Delaware and the farmer’s market located in one of New York City’s great public space, Union Square. Yesterday was the season opener for the farmer’s market near my office in Washington, DC so you know I was a happy person as… Read More
