Time Stands Still on Sept. 11

Time will stand still for me this morning around 8:45 a.m. when the clock will remind me that twelve years ago today, the first plane, a hijacked American Airlines jet flying out of Boston, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center, setting into motion national events and policies that permanently changed the way we as a nation live.
All I need to do is look at a picture of the Twin Towers and it all comes back to me.  Not only the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City, but also the terrorist attack … Read More

Alicia Keys — Listen To Your Heart

My new thing is to listen to Alicia Key’s “Girl On Fire” CD on my way to work. Alicia Keys is amazing!  I have loved her music from the first time I heard her groundbreaking song, “Fallin”,  on the radio about 10 years ago.  I didn’t know who she was but I googled and youtubed until I found out.  I have been lucky enough to see her perform live twice and that is the best!! Alicia Keys “Girl On Fire” CD She has a beautiful, smooth, soulful voice, is an incredible songwriter and her music pulls you into some kind… Read More

I was clicking around on Pinterest (which is truly a guilty pleasure!!!) yesterday and found this insightful and timely quote on one of my niece’s boards. How true! Grief is unpredictable!  And that’s why people don’t like to talk about it, or acknowledge it, and hope, hope, hope, that it will go away all on its own. But Cry, Laugh, Heal is all about having an honest dialogue about grief and resilience and sharing what helped me after my husband sadly died nine years ago.  I have found that time and support from friends and family have helped me but … Read More

The Selling of The Washington Post

There are some stories that I never expected to read in my lifetime. The selling of The Washington Post is one of them.  When I saw the first tweet about this surprising event, I thought I had read it too fast and read the words completely wrong.  I had to go back and read it again a few times before I understood that it was a real story. I just never in a million years thought the Graham family would sell the newspaper that they have owned for decades and generations.  To those of us who live here in Washington,… Read More

Within The Morning Light

I am an early riser.  I find the morning to be peaceful and so quiet.  I use my morning time to collect my thoughts about what I think is going to happen during that particular day and pray for other things that I hope will happen. So the morning is when a lot happens for me.  With my trusty cups of hot tea, I appreciate the solitude of the wee early hours of the day.  Quiet allows me to think and to breathe and pull myself together. I am always writing down blog ideas and collecting different points of view… Read More

Make Each Day Meaningful

Resilience is a quality we all have within us.  We can take that resilience and make it work for us and strengthen ourselves if we choose. Resilience is a tenacity of spirit; a determination to deal with adversity in our lives.  I know it doesn’t feel like it at the time we are trying to handle one of life’s stressful or sad times, but the courage and patience that we find inside ourselves as we process hardships can help us come out on the other side of it a better person. A better person, you ask?  How can that be?… Read More

A big shout out today goes to the multi-talented singer songwriter Owen Danoff for exceeding his Kickstarter goal of $15,000!!! Owen and his supporters raised $19,391 by June 30 and now Owen has the money to record his debut album this year!!!  In fact, he’s already started work on his album.  This past weekend, he and his rockin’ band went to NYC to spend time in a recording studio putting down music tracks.   I write about this today because it is truly exciting and yes, healing, to watch someone who I have know since he was a baby find … Read More

Crying & Healing

This post is for anyone, and in particular someone who is close to me, who is currently going through an anxious time in their life and is unsure how it will turn out. Anxiety may be dogging you and causing sleepless nights, loss of appetite, an increase in appetite, a need to abuse alcohol or drugs (please don’t!!!!), crankiness or sadness and crying.  As in crying constantly.  Like every day.  At any time. This person close to me was talking recently about how crying really does make her feel better but she’s also aware that it doesn’t make others around… Read More
