Life According to Winnie the Pooh

“What day is it,?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
I have a soft spot in my heart for Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends in the Hundred-Acre Wood.  It reminds me of a more innocent time when my son was a child and he would sit in my lap or his father’s lap and we would read Winnie the Pooh aloud to him.  I’m going to date myself now, but we also had Winnie the Pooh tapes to pop in the VCR (no CD’s then) and watching Pooh and especially Tigger together … Read More

A Resilient Giants Victory

Ron Antonelli/New York Daily News Part of healing and jumping back into the regular routine of life is finding something to care about.  It can be anything in the whole universe and you can change it anytime you want. Yesterday, for me, it was the New York Giants and their 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots. The Super Bowl party I attended was loose and friendly in the beginning of the game but it became a little more tense in the fourth quarter as the clock ticked away and the game looked like it would be decided by one… Read More

Rep. Giffords hugs Daniel Hernandez, the former intern who saved her life. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is a class act. This past weekend we heard the sad news that Giffords has decided to resign from her congressional seat this week, a little over a year after she was shot in the head at a constituent event in Tucson.  If not for the shooting, Gifford’s life would have followed a different course: she had planned to begin fertility treatments and she wanted to run for the Senate. Giffords doesn’t talk about her plans that have been put on hold.  Instead, she courageously… Read More

Art by Sandy Gingras I love Sandy Gingras because she is a beach woman just like me!!!! She understands the magical pull of the ocean, the sand and the sun and her whimsical art reflects the need that a lot of us feel. I am happy to be at the beach any time of the year.  Even when it’s winter and it’s freezing outside, I still think about the ocean a lot.  I need to listen to the cleansing sound of the waves and feel the wind on my face.  Our family went to the ocean for a few days… Read More

Photo By Patti Raab A family I know lost their brother right before Christmas and now the same family has suddenly lost their father.  I can’t imagine the waves of shock, pain, anger, despair and confusion they are engulfed in now as they try to work their way through another intense grieving process. Please include them in your thoughts and prayers.  The following article is dedicated to them: The Early Days: Surviving the First Few Days of Bereavement By Greg Wright What are the most important things to know during the first few weeks of bereavement?  Several months ago, my… Read More

Gabby Giffords

Photo by CBSNews.com If you Google the word resilient, you will find yourself reading about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-AZ. Resilience is the ability to recover from a crisis, a dramatic life change or even failure.  Some people are born with resilience and others develop it. Resilience is when life hands you an awful situation and you turn it into an opportunity to learn or develop something about yourself. Resilience is digging down deep within ourselves and finding the resources to cope with a changed life. To me, this is the essence of Gabby Giffords. One year ago tomorrow, Giffords was… Read More

Happy Birthday Cry, Laugh Heal!  Yup.  It has actually been one whole year since Cry, Laugh Heal was launched as a blog and I really can’t believe it. How would I measure my first year of blogging? In friendship, in kindness, and in support. That’s what blogging has meant to me.  It has opened up a new world of connecting with others on an emotional level and also has given me new resources for information and that is exhilarating.   Along with my son’s help, I pushed myself to learn something new and I am so glad that I did.   … Read More

New York Daily News Photo The holidays are all around us and sometimes it feels as though the songs, the decorations and even the food are reminders of the beloved people we lost. This time of year can be especially difficult for those of us in search of a place of peace.  We quietly ache for the presence of a particular person we loved and grieve for while we also try to live in this season of celebration.
