Eva Cassidy Singing At Washington, D.C.’s jazz club, Blues Alley

Good Morning Friends!

If your weekend was as busy as mine, then I bet you are ready to go ever so gently into this Monday by listening to some healing music.

Songbird is a popular song recorded and written by Christine McVie.  You may know it from Fleetwood Mac’s infamous platinum awarding winning album Rumours.

This beautiful song was brought back to me when The Washington Post ran a story about her last week and then a good friend of mine posted Eva’s cover of Songbird on her Facebook … Read More

Channeling Iggy Azalea

When I feel my internal stress-o-meter starting to rise, then I know it’s time to find something that will make me laugh. Big time. Something that will make me forget that life can sometimes feel like a pressure cooker. Laughing immediately releases tension for me and it also allows me to put what is causing my stress into perspective.  Which means that I am trying to let myself know that the stress causer is not important and shouldn’t be using my valuable energy. Translation: it’s no big whoop so I need to move on and find something funny that will… Read More

Reward Yourself

January 26th, 2015

When I find myself in times of worry or stress, I often handle it by giving myself rewards. I focus on the stressful or worrisome tasks that I have to deal with and then in the back of my mind I tell myself that when I’m done with whatever it is for the time being, I will do something that will make me feel better about life. For me, rewards are sometimes a critical part of managing the darker sides of life.  Rewards give me a boost and make me feel as though I can carry on.  It can be… Read More

Lea Michele & Cory Monteith

Songs are touchstones; expressions of personal thoughts, emotions or memories.  An outpouring of experiences.  Songs can transport and inspire and also energize.  Songs can also help the writer and the listener process emotions of loss or grief. Actress and singer Lea Michele had been working on her new album, Louder, many months before the tragic and sudden death of her boyfriend, actor Cory Monteith, who died from a toxic mixture of heroin and alcohol.  Michele and Monteith also connected professionally, playing high school sweethearts on Fox’s award winning series, Glee. With the recent release of Louder, Michele is giving candid interviews … Read More

Johnny Cash’s To Do

February 26th, 2014

I write about the great American singer songwriter Johnny Cash today for two reasons: the first is it’s his birthday and if he were still here with us he would be 82 years old (Happy Birthday Johnny!) and the second is his infamous “to do” list. Cash’s iconic songwriting talents crossed over into so many different kinds of music that he is one of the few people to have been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.  Incredible right? Cash’s most powerful songs to… Read More

Get Lucky!

I know the Grammys were Sunday night but the music is still rockin’ and rollin’ for me. I’m Up All Night To Get Lucky. . . The Grammys are a blast to watch because everyone is so out there in their creativity and hopefully your favorite singer, song or group wins something.  I think people like to watch it because they imagine themselves standing there before the cameras singing some of the songs they love or in my case I imagine myself up there on the stage dancing the night away. You’re telling me you don’t ever imagine being in… Read More

Royals Cover By Pip

Lorde’s smash hit, “Royals,” is a mesmerizing song with an almost hypnotic beat.  I can’t understand all the words to the song but I still like it and it continues to grow on me. I was surfing around on YouTube the other day because music is an instant stress buster for me and found a different version of  “Royals,” sung by Pip and a few other singers.  I watched it a few times and thought you might want to check out Pip’s unique cover of “Royals” because it’s filmed in the round in a parking garage! Pip in Los Angeles… Read More

Parades, picnics, cookouts, and the day off from work.  These are just some of the ways we as Americans celebrate the Fourth of July, a day set aside to mark and remember when the United States first declared its independence from Great Britian in 1776! Tonight, in the nation’s capital, there will be a spectacular display of fireworks, and I’m sure it will be just as dazzling as it was last year.  It truly is a special event!
