Door Decoration

As we slide into this holiday week of Thanksgiving, my thoughts turn to the simple idea of setting aside a day to show gratitude.

Yes life is crazy, messy and unpredictable.

Yes the holiday season can be painful and a stinging reminder of a terrible loss or a difficult family situation.

But you can sit yourself down and listen to your heart and acknowledge your limits.  Be aware of what you need before you join family and friends for any holiday event.  Express your thoughts and feelings to a trusted person.  Change up your expectations and instead focus on one … Read More

Just in the nick of time my good friends, Friday has arrived on the scene. And not just any Friday, but a Friday leading us into a three day holiday weekend.  YES! I work hard, just as you do, and I also take a lot of pride in the work I do.  But at the end of the day, work is work and everybody needs a break from it.  I am not one of those people who subscribe to the idea that if I put in long hours at the desk or computer I will get more accomplished.  To me,… Read More

The Notebook

I never know when I am going to read or hear something that I might want to use in writing a future blog post so I try to always carry a small notebook with me.  On the times that I have forgotten my notebook, I have written notes on the back of envelopes, cocktail napkins and business cards which then creates this messy pile of stray notes. For now, the small spiral notebook I am using is almost full and it caused me recently to flip through the worn pages to check and see if I had missed anything that… Read More

When I find myself getting close to sensory overload, I seek out quiet places to sit, to refresh and chill out. After Monday’s tragic shooting and killing of 13 people in the Washington Navy Yard, I truly needed a break from being bombarded with images and information.  Sitting in nature helps bring my focus back to what is important to me about the big picture of life. As I notice and enjoy what is around me, I remind myself that I can’t change the fact that highly stressful events happen, but I can change how I interpret and respond to… Read More

Slow Dance

I find this poem called Slow Dance to be nourishment for my soul. It helps me reset and focus my energies and set out once again on this magical journey called life so that I can appreciate the beauty and blessing that are given to me. Instead of powering through my days and nights, this poem reminds me to get out of the fast lane and slow down and really and truly focus on the wonder around me. Slow Dance Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, or listened to rain slapping the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic… Read More

Dancing Dreams

Pauline Clark has got it goin’ on.Today’s post is about holding on to a dream that you know is good for your soul.  Pauline Clark is my inspiration today and she is featured in the story below that I read in the New York Daily News about how Pauline’s lifetime dream of dancing with the Rockettes finally came true. I think Pauline Clark, who is 87, has definitely heard about the idea of “use it or loose it” and has taken it to heart as a lifetime philosophy. The idea behind “use it or loose it” is essentially this:  if… Read More
