Cast of NBC’s “The Voice”
singing a tribute to victims in Newtown, CT

A good friend who tragically lost a loved one in the Newtown, CT mass shooting yesterday posted on her Facebook page this beautiful and haunting video of the coaches and artists from NBC’s hit show, The Voice, singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in a tribute to the 20 children and six adults who died in the halls of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

I think it is the simplicity of the song’s message that makes it so powerful.  Let the healing powers of the music fill your soul and … Read More

Pauline Clark has got it goin’ on.Today’s post is about holding on to a dream that you know is good for your soul.  Pauline Clark is my inspiration today and she is featured in the story below that I read in the New York Daily News about how Pauline’s lifetime dream of dancing with the Rockettes finally came true. I think Pauline Clark, who is 87, has definitely heard about the idea of “use it or loose it” and has taken it to heart as a lifetime philosophy. The idea behind “use it or loose it” is essentially this:  if… Read More

Finding Grief Support

I recently went back to the beginning of Cry Laugh Heal and read my the first post from 2010 and it brought all the crazy grieving feelings back to me: exhaustion, numbness, raw emotions, the scary future and sometimes even laughter! But it also reminded how great my support group was during that time and how it gave me the priceless gift of hope and helped me feel that life really would get better (somehow?!?!) even though my sweetheart of a husband died.  As I met with my small group twice a month, some sessions were incredibly upsetting and some… Read More

What Would Nana Do?

When life hands me a difficult situation, I think about my Nana and wonder how she would have handled it. My Nana gives me strength and inspiration because she lived a good and simple life. She and my Pop-Pop raised five children (including my mother) during the Depression on as much as $58 a week and for awhile on nothing because my grandfather lost his job.  During the time that there was no paycheck, they lived on canned goods that a relative got for free and and managed to keep their house and continue to feed and clothe their children.… Read More

Oh, Maya Angelou, you are one talented and wise woman! Her poem, Still I Rise, tells us about what it means to face life’s difficulties with courage and patience.  Staying committed to walk your journey and refusing to give up is not easy, but as long as we can take that first step and reach out for help, it can be done. Take Maya Angelou’s hand, read her inspiring thoughts and feel her strength in the following verses: Still I Rise By Maya Angelou You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me… Read More

Angels & Faith

Faith is usually defined as having a confident belief in the truth of a person, idea or thing.  Faith is also defined as having a secure belief in God and a trusting acceptance of God’s will. Hmmmm….trusting acceptance.  For me that is always the part of faith that I am constantly working on.  I have been thinking a lot about faith these days and it’s role in my life.  I don’t know what the future will bring, but of course  I always hope and pray that it’s going to be something good. And if it’s not something good, then I… Read More

Michele Woodward — Managing Change

Michele Woodward I’m always on the look out for people who have positive insights about life and its many surprises.  An office friend told me about Michele Woodward and how she is a fantastic life coach.  I read her blog (www.michelewoodward.com) and have found that she almost always presents a fresh perspective on how to get out there and do whatever it is I need or want to do. Michele doesn’t just talk the talk.  She has also walked the walk.  She is a divorced mother of two teenaged children, so her down-to-earth advice is not clean and dry theory;… Read More
