August begins anew today, giving us cause to flip the calendar to a new page.

Yes I am old-school and still use paper calendars. Perhaps you find electronic devices easier, but I happen to think paper is fun and enjoy the different beach and nature themes of the calendars I have hanging in my kitchen, my home office and my work office.

You can file the following under silly, sad, ridiculous or just plain ole unnecessary and inefficient. I came home from work yesterday and, as I usually do, picked up the mail from the door slot and started going through it.  Monday’s mail is usually thin and this time it was no exception.  A few real estate solicitation cards, a catalog and even a letter from a friend. Snowy Surprise

I went to the kitchen window early this morning and expected to see the bare concrete of the sidewalk and instead saw snow covering the ground and all of the surrounding cars and trees. I had heard some talk of snow coming to the Washington, DC area yesterday on the news but the forecasters are usually so far off the mark that I didn’t pay attention to their prediction. I took a quick one-night trip to New York City on Monday to attend a senior awards dinner at Fordham University’s Lincoln Center campus.  I was invited by the Dean of Students and was asked not to tell my son that I was coming because my son didn’t even know that he was going to receive an award.  My lips were sealed and my bag was packed.  There was no way that I was going to miss this event because this is the kind of stuff that parents live for.
