I’m Walking…Yes Indeed

Walking Child

Whenever I find my mind spinning around, thinking about too many things at once, my go-to solution is to get outside and start walking.

Walking helps me clear my mind of cobwebs and clogged up thoughts.

Walking is good for getting rid of swirling, twirling thoughts that seem to endlessly fly around with no direction in sight.

Walking also gives me a sense of accomplishing something…if only to exercise my needy body!

As I walked in the chilly outdoors yesterday (it is April right?), I let my mind wander while taking in the much needed change of scenery, trying … Read More

Momentum Of The Day

My car has been in the repair shop for the past 24 hours so public transportation is my way to get home for awhile. When I got off the Metro last night, I decided to do without riding the bus and instead walk the rest of the way home. It’s a little over a mile from the Metro stop to my home but it was a warm evening and I wasn’t in a hurry and I thought the walk would be good for me after sitting at a desk most of the day. Right away it felt good to move… Read More

Walkin’ Off Those Cupcakes

If you are anything like me, I have a tendency to overindulge on sweet treats over the weekends.  Especially now that Halloween candy seems to be everywhere!! Is it me or does it seem that right around the holidays the sugar manufacturers manage to introduce some new combination of ooey, gooey chocolatey temptation that we really don’t need but have to try? I try hard to crank up the amount of exercise I do every day to counteract the extra weekend calories but it just seems to get harder every year to work off those extra LBs. It’s a never… Read More

Reward Yourself

When I find myself in times of worry or stress, I often handle it by giving myself rewards. I focus on the stressful or worrisome tasks that I have to deal with and then in the back of my mind I tell myself that when I’m done with whatever it is for the time being, I will do something that will make me feel better about life. For me, rewards are sometimes a critical part of managing the darker sides of life.  Rewards give me a boost and make me feel as though I can carry on.  It can be… Read More

Getting In Gear

The calendar still says February but the warm temperatures this weekend offered me hope that Spring is close to arriving in my area of the world. I think my neighbors felt the same way because all weekend I saw them emerging from their homes of hibernation, waving hellos and walking around their yards picking up recently fallen branches and small sticks and checking out winter’s damages.  It was also nice to see the baby brigade out and about with strollers and young toddlers in tow.  While doing my errands, everyone seemed to be energized by the warm and shining sun. … Read More

Joy Of Motion

Blogging plus my full-time job equals too much time in front of the computer. When I am involved in a deadline project and super concentrated on what I am doing, it is very easy for me to lose track of time and forget to move from my chair.  Sitting at my desk for hours on end may help me get my work done, but researchers also say it increases my chances of getting diabetes, heart disease and shortening my life.  So as comfy as it feels to sit or hang out on the couch, I’ve got to get moving. Because … Read More

You can file today’s post under the category of silly — but true! It’s a slice of life that may be about to arrive in a community near you. Seeing. Eye. People. That’s right.  Seeing Eye People. A Seeing Eye Person In Action As in: hold on to me (a person, not a dog) and I will guide you and be your eyes while you continue to walk and text. The idea of offering Seeing Eye People as a service is performed by Improv Everywhere & BuzzFeed as a bit of street comedy but it not that far fetched. Every… Read More

It’s Your Road

February 5th, 2013

Thought For The Day. . . I know this picture is a bit on the grainy side, but I really liked the sentiment of the saying: “It’s your road, and yours alone.   Others may walk it with you, But no one can walk it for you.” It would be nice if someone could take our place and walk on our road for awhile; perhaps making it less painful. Wouldn’t that be nice? But we don’t know where our road is going to take us, do we?  I believe that my road has been painful but it also has been a… Read More
