Summer’s Journey

Usually by this time of the year, I have committed to the dates for taking a vacation with my son.  But this year is different.

Now that my son has graduated from college and started his new paying job (love to be able to say paying job), we both are pretty sure that the rest of the summer will be different from other summers.  Since he isn’t living at home and his job requires him to work on Saturdays, it’s a pretty good bet that our usual August vacation isn’t going to happen.
But we are trying hard to make … Read More

Chipotle’s Salsa

Photo By Patti Raab Hey farmer’s market fans — Chipotle was the new vendor yesterday at the farmer’s market near the White House.  What is a national chain of restaurants doing at a farmer’s market you may ask?  I was wondering too until I got to Chipotle’s table.  Chipotle put on a live demonstration showing how easy it is to use summer produce and herbs to make your own fresh salsa.  The store also gave out it’s salsa recipe which I have posted below for you to try. Chipotle, which tries to source organic and local produce when it can, … Read More

Uber Fun

Courtesy of Uber Earlier this week, I was surprised with the opportunity of using an Uber car to get from a business meeting back to my office.  It was so pleasant and so efficient compared to my usual crazy experience in a Washington, DC taxicab or using the Metro.  I wish Uber could be my permanent way of getting around town! Sometimes part of the healing experience can be when someone does something out-of-the-blue unexpected and nice for you and you just sit back and enjoy it.  Besides, Resilient Readers, you are the best and I have to share with… Read More

Talk about someone providing the music of your life. For me, that would definitely be Donna Summer.; winner of five Grammy Awards!! Bad Girls…Hot Stuff…Heaven Knows…On the Radio…Dim All The Lights. Crank up the jukebox and turn on the disco ball because I can trace boyfriends, Friday night after work blowouts and dancing with my husband to the fantastic music of Donna Summer!  In fact, the very last song we played at our wedding reception was “Last Dance.”  Summer’s music made me feel full of energy; as though I could dance forever and I think she brought out a little… Read More

The Amazing Power of Music

What would our lives be like if we didn’t have the amazing sounds of music? Listening to music can enhance a mood or change a mood.  It can calm our thoughts and center our inner personas.  Music enriches our lives on so many different levels and creates exciting connections no matter what our age. Our souls are thirsty for the melodies that spur our imaginations to take flight and go where our bodies can’t.  Sometimes when I am listening to a song, I feel the years melt away and I am immediately transported back to a first date, a family… Read More

Talking To Myself

I was eating my breakfast and watching the local news yesterday when I heard some good news: a new study says that talking to yourself is good for your brain. Woot!  Woot! Woot! What a relief!!!!!!  I’m not alone!!!!!!! I constantly talk aloud to myself and I think it first started after my son was born.  It didn’t matter that he couldn’t answer me. I got used to verbalizing my thoughts out loud to him.  While I was in the house taking care of my son as a newborn, and then later as a young child, I would constantly talk… Read More

Taylor Swift — Why Ya Gotta Be So Mean?

April 23rd, 2012

It’s the beginning of a new work week and I’m going to be singing this Taylor Swift song to myself all day long. There’s something about this song that helps to keep me chugging along.  Instead of getting worked up and reacting to situations I can’t do anything about, I’m going to be humming this song to myself and staying mentally cool, calm and collected. At least that’s the plan for now!  So Monday, bring it on and let’s get goin’:… Read More
