The coast of Ireland

The coast of Ireland

I love a day dedicated to the celebration of all things Irish!  St. Patrick’s day is definitely all about having a grand time but there’s a lot more to being Irish than hanging out in a bar and drinking green beer, downing pints of Guinness and slamming whiskey shots.

To me, it’s also a day to pause, think about my peeps and take pride in my culture.  It’s a culture rich in its ancient history and magical in its talents.  We are story tellers, dancers, weavers of thoughts and ideas and a people who have a … Read More

Hi My Faithful Readers, I am going in a different direction today and I hope you are okay with it… Whether you’re cooking corned beef, cabbage and potatoes der boy or you’re stewing some beef and Guinness, a freshly baked loaf of Irish Soda bread will lend a touch of the old country to your St. Patrick’s Day celebration. I grew up in a large family of six children and we ate A LOT of Irish soda bread.  My favorite way to eat soda bread is when it’s still warm from the oven with lots of orange marmalade spread on… Read More

Love Peace & Soul — Don Cornelius

Soul Train was something you got right away or you didn’t. If you had to explain why you watched it, then you knew Soul Train’s appeal had escaped the other person. From the get go, the very first time I watched Soul Train I was hooked.  Every Saturday morning I would turn it on, turn it up, watch it and dance.  How else was a young white girl gonna stay on top of the latest dance moves?  News stories say that Soul Train was a black American Bandstand but really we all know that Soul Train was so much more. … Read More

Go Giants!

Photo Courtesy of NBC Sports I’d like to give a big shout out to the New York Giants who yesterday defeated the San Francisco 49ers and now are going to the Super Bowl!!!!! I know my husband is up there in the big blue sky with a big smile on his face, celebrating in his own heavenly way.  It’s funny how many text messages I received while watching the game commenting about his supposed involvement with the Giants as though he could make the game go one way or the other.  But once the championship game went into overtime, even… Read More

Art by Sandy Gingras I love Sandy Gingras because she is a beach woman just like me!!!! She understands the magical pull of the ocean, the sand and the sun and her whimsical art reflects the need that a lot of us feel. I am happy to be at the beach any time of the year.  Even when it’s winter and it’s freezing outside, I still think about the ocean a lot.  I need to listen to the cleansing sound of the waves and feel the wind on my face.  Our family went to the ocean for a few days… Read More

Laughing can make you relax and breathe. It’s really true, according to The Washington Post story below.   When times are tough, a sense of humor can help us cope.  I think it always makes you feel better if you can make fun of the person who is stressing you out or make a joke about the awful situation you’re in! KHAM/Reuters Laughing may help ease blood pressure, boost mood and enrich health in other ways By Carolyn Butler, Published: October 24 The Washington Post Whenever I took a tumble or scraped my knee as a child, my mother typically assessed… Read More
