This past weekend the winter weather window opened up for a well-timed warming trend and for a few hours our buddy The Sun popped through the cold and the clouds and energized everything in its path.

It gave me hope that Spring is really and truly on the way and with it a renewed sense of purpose.

What an energy boost!

As I sat in my car waiting for the traffic light to turn green, I closed my eyes and drank in as much sunshine and Vitamin D as possible.  Basking in the sun always gives me a fantastic feeling of well-being: knots in my muscles and mental frustrations in the old brain begin to relax while my immune system feels as though it’s being strengthened by the bright rays of direct sunlight.

Allowing yourself to take note of the small, beautiful and sometimes surprising things that happen in your life, like sunshine and rising temperatures, can help make dealing with the dark and daunting episodes of life a little easier.  I think our minds have greater influence over our well-being than we realize.  Drinking sunshine, even for a short period of time, can give your mind a rest and a quiet break from the mental chatter that may be swirling around in your head.

A mindful break doesn’t erase the biting or ignorant comment your boss or work colleague might have recently said or the deadline for complicated project you are busting your butt on but taking the time to appreciate the amazing restorative powers of nature and its relaxing goodness can push your mood to a healthier place.  To a place where you feel that your worries are a bit more manageable.

May The Sun shine on us today as we step into a new work week and fill us with the focus and inspiration we need to make our ideas a reality for when we are committed and passionate about what we do there is less stress.
