Since it’s Monday and that fact on it’s own may make it difficult to get going, I thought I would share a song that always make me feel upbeat.

Listening to John Legend’s smooth velvety voice in this song, “A Good Night,” is a definite stress buster but I think there’s something extra reassuring when I hear him sing the words — as though he is telling me personally — “Everything’s gonna be all right.”

In the song, Legend sings that he thinks everything’s gonna be all right because he thinks he just met his wife.  But for our purposes, … Read More

Momentum Of The Day

My car has been in the repair shop for the past 24 hours so public transportation is my way to get home for awhile. When I got off the Metro last night, I decided to do without riding the bus and instead walk the rest of the way home. It’s a little over a mile from the Metro stop to my home but it was a warm evening and I wasn’t in a hurry and I thought the walk would be good for me after sitting at a desk most of the day. Right away it felt good to move… Read More

Hold On For One More Day

Today being Friday, I think we deserve to listen to an outstanding song to celebrate its arrival. You may know the song Hold On from the fabulous and hysterical movie, Bridesmaids. In the movie, Hold On is performed by Wilson Phillips, the original group which cut the record in 1990, and we watch as they sing their classic harmony and then we see the uber-talented actresses/writers/entertainers Maya Rudolph and Kristin Wiig lipsynch the words to the song and dance along to its catchy beat. If you listen to the lyrics you hear that Hold On is about personal empowerment and… Read More

Princess Diana with her sons, Prince Harry and Prince William, in London in 1995.  Photo courtesy of AFP/Getty Images Princess Diana and her extraordinary sons are back in the news given that August 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of her tragic death in a car crash while visiting Paris. Perhaps you have been reading the numerous news articles marking this significant event or you watched the HBO special where Diana’s sons, William and Harry, lovingly shared family pictures and tenderly spoke of their mother’s dedication to numerous charitable causes. While it has been 20 years since Diana died, I think… Read More

5 Purifying Places to Cry

Emmy Award Winning Actor Jon Hamm as Mad Men’s Don Draper (Yes, Men Do Cry & That’s Okay) Sometimes the feeling starts in my throat. It feels tight.  I try to swallow a few times to see if that will make it go away. The next thing I know a lump has formed as I begin to feel my eyes well up with water.  I try looking up at the ceiling because a good friend told me this is a trick she uses to prevent crying. Or I pinch the bridge of my nose so that I focus on the … Read More

Daddy Daughter Ballet

I took ballet lessons for almost ten years and I would have loved to have taken at least one class with my Dad. I know he would have been up for it — even if it meant wearing a pink tutu.  I know it would have been pure fun! I laugh to myself just thinking about what it would have been like if we had had the chance to dance together that way.  At 89 years old, my Dad still has a strong resilient spirit even though he recently began receiving hospice care. I began to imagine … Read More

Me As Buddy The Elf

Photo Courtesy of Country Living This holiday season I feel a bit like Buddy from the popular Christmas movie, Elf. Remember the scene where Buddy the elf, who is magically played by Will Ferrell, travels from the North Pole to New York City to find his father and explains to his new family that elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup? That would be me this holiday season.  Except for the candy corn, which I have never liked because I think it tastes like some kind of plastic or wax.… Read More

My late husband, Tom O’Toole, as a young boy   Good Morning Friends: So how was your week? I’m not trying to be flip.  I am genuinely concerned. We live in a topsy turvy world and you would have to be stationed in some unbelievably remote part of the globe not to be aware of the election results in this week’s U.S. presidential contest.  Seriously, it has been quite a freaking week and everyone I know (including myself) is still absorbing what happened. On top of the surprising election results, my family received some sad personal news that I … Read More

Real Life Re-Entry

Today I reluctantly come back to the real world. I have been living as Beach Bum Girl for the past week and loving every minute of it.  To say that the beach is my Happy Place is an understatement.  Every year I return to the same beach with family and friends so that I may slow down and embrace the simple and beautiful ways of living near the shore. Hopefully a vacation of some sort is in your summer plans.  We all need to spend time away from our work routines and relax because it’s important for maintaining good… Read More
