Life’s Little Presents

Sometimes it’s the little things in life that can make a difference.

Someone holds the door for you as you enter a building.

A stranger (nicely and innocently) smiles at you for no reason.

A friend calls you.

Someone treats you to lunch.

A happy card arrives in the mail.

You find a dress, purse or shoes on sale at an incredible price. ( I always love this!)

Someone actually listens to you.

These small wonderful surprises give you a lift and put something extra into your step.  Most of these are surprises that you can give … Read More

Shifting Gears

Hi There Faithful Readers: I don’t have much to say today because yesterday was one of those days when I swear I must have worked every gear possible to make it through the 24 hours that made up Wednesday. Between being caught in incredible traffic backups caused by accidents that involved cars and Metrobuses on the way to work and on the way home, I have come to truly believe that Washington, DC is a city full of incompetent, selfish and stupid drivers.  I know that’s saying a lot but you try driving in this city and I think you’ll… Read More

A Positive Quality of Life

September 29th, 2011

Photo by Eileen Milner Since living a healthy life is all about being positive, I thought the following sentiments would be a good way to start the day!  A friend saw the below inspiration on one of her friend’s Facebook page and I think it’s definitely worth sharing: Someone once said, “There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and  people who create it.   You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who… Read More

Discovering Kris Carr

A relative who is also a close friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and while visiting her she introduced me to the awesome books written by The New York Times best-selling author Kris Carr. I don’t know how I missed her but I am now totally taken with her philosophy of assessing your personal priorities in order to successfully battle cancer and become a “wellness warrior.” Carr’s blueprint for self-examination helps you to take stock of how much you actually exercise (not enough), what you actually eat (room for improvement) and what you should eat (more veggies) to how… Read More

There Is A Season (Turn, Turn,Turn)

“Turn! Turn! Turn!,” a classic pop song performed by the Byrds in the 1960’s, has been playing in my mind recently.  The music was written by Pete Seeger and the lyrics were adapted from the Book of Ecclesiastes. To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn) There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn) And a time to every purpose, under Heaven Maybe it’s the change in seasons dovetailing with graduations, weddings, engagements and milestone birthdays, but it feels for me as though the times, they are a changin’. A time to be born, a time to die, A time to plant, a time… Read More

The Twin Towers, the Pentagon & Flight 93

When President Obama officially announced on television late last night that Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan, my thoughts went immediately to the relatives and friends of the thousands of people whose lives were lost in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and Flight 93. For almost ten years, these people have been trying to put the pieces of their shattered lives back together so that they may heal and perhaps build some kind of a future after having their loved ones violently taken from them. I wondered how and what they were feeling now that… Read More

Look To This Day

Look To this Day By Kalidasa  Look to this day:  For it is life, the very life of life. In its brief course Lie all the verities and realities of your existence. The bliss of growth, The glory of action, The splendour of achievement Are but experiences of time. For yesterday is but a dream And tomorrow is only a vision; And today well-lived, makes Yesterday a dream of happiness And every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day; Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn!… Read More
