“Oh My God.  Have you heard about Kate Spade?”

“I’m so sad and mad about the Kate Spade news.  How could she do that?”

“Wow. I just heard about Kate Spade.  Unbelievable.”

Kate Spade’s recent and surprising death is a tragedy on so many levels: that she lost her battle with depression and sadly committed suicide, that she left behind a daughter who is at the tender age of 13 and that we will no longer be the enthusiastic recipients of her amazing talents as the uber-popular fashion designer of purses, jewelry, shoes … Read More

A Graceful Monday

Shhhh….something tells me it’s Monday. I’m feeling mellow this morning and perhaps this has something to do with turning the clocks forward this past weekend and losing an hour as we spring forward in to daylight savings time.  I totally love the longer day, full of more daylight and opportunities to socialize outdoors, but I have to admit that it is a bit of an adjustment for the body, especially in the beginning. I’m moving a bit slowly today as I’m sure you might be too.  Sort of like molasses or even like a garden snail. Spring will arrive soon… Read More

Moving Into Monday

I hear my stationary bicycle calling to me. “Come on.  You have calories and fat to burn off.  You need to get your heart pumping.  Get your butt in gear.  I’m here.  Where are you?” Ah, the rhythms of life!! It’s hard to get myself in the exercise groove but I remind myself that I’m doing something good for me.  There is a payoff: exercise is a must for the whole me; the mind/body connection and on top of that it’s healing. On some level, aerobic exercising or general movement such as walking, dancing, yoga or even running helps me… Read More

Grandma Drummer

I know it’s a little early in the morning to listen to the rhythm of a set of drums, but I couldn’t resist posting this short video of Mary Hvizda of La Crosse, Wisconsin.  Check her out for she is having such a blast!  She is a great reminder to me of the necessity to jump into every day and follow my passions. Better known as “Grandma Drummer” to the folks at the Coalition Drum Shop in La Crosse, Mary has reportedly played in a lot of band since was 16 and still can’t get enough of picking up those… Read More

A good laugh is worth a million bucks. Justin Timberlake & Jimmy Fallon on Saturday Night Live There are a few of my friends and family members who can make me laugh so hard that I can’t get my breath and I love that they have this special talent.  They are usually imitating someone or just have the ability to see life in a quirky way and I always can use a dose of their sense of humor. Fortunately, there are also a few shows on television that also make me laugh.  One of them is “Saturday Night Live.”  When… Read More

Blogging plus my full-time job equals too much time in front of the computer. When I am involved in a deadline project and super concentrated on what I am doing, it is very easy for me to lose track of time and forget to move from my chair.  Sitting at my desk for hours on end may help me get my work done, but researchers also say it increases my chances of getting diabetes, heart disease and shortening my life.  So as comfy as it feels to sit or hang out on the couch, I’ve got to get moving. Because … Read More

Make Each Day Meaningful

Resilience is a quality we all have within us.  We can take that resilience and make it work for us and strengthen ourselves if we choose. Resilience is a tenacity of spirit; a determination to deal with adversity in our lives.  I know it doesn’t feel like it at the time we are trying to handle one of life’s stressful or sad times, but the courage and patience that we find inside ourselves as we process hardships can help us come out on the other side of it a better person. A better person, you ask?  How can that be?… Read More

A Daily Om

We all need a mental health break, don’t we?  I just didn’t expect to find one downtown in a city park. While walking down the street yesterday during lunch hour in the downtown area of the nation’s capitol, I spied a large white tent set up across the street in a park known as McPherson Square.  The tent reminded me of one of those large white tents that people use at outdoor wedding receptions.  I could only see the back of the tent so, ever the curious one, I walked over to check it out. Somebody must be promoting something,… Read More

Making A New Bedroom

On the weekends, I like to try and organize myself.Sometimes I succeed in my de-clutter efforts and sometimes I don’t.  During the work week, I have a very bad habit of throwing clothes and papers into piles.  By the time the weekend rolls around, I know I have to deal with the piles and hang stuff up and throw things away. This past weekend marked a milestone for me because I just had my bedroom painted and most of the stuff that was under my bed,  hanging on wall and door hooks and on top of my furniture was in… Read More
