If you live in my area of the world sometimes known as the #DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia), I sincerely hope you have not caught any of the strains of yucky flu quickly making themselves felt as they spread their awful symptoms through young and old.
I had a flu shot this year but as my doctor told me yesterday this year’s flu shot unfortunately did not “cover” or protect me from the different strains of flu now floating around in search of perfectly healthy people it can attack and inhabit. The first symptoms hit me like a wall this past Saturday and at first I really didn’t know what was going on because I do not get sick very often.
Achy. Crampy. Nausea. Dizziness. Ugh!! I pushed myself to drive to the store for some ginger ale and saltines and was so pathetic that by the time I arrived home I threw myself on the couch with my jacket on and fell asleep for a solid hour.
Alka Seltzer. Airborne. Rolaids. Advil.
These are just a few of the things in my flu arsenal that I have been constantly ingesting to get rid of this awful bug. I really hate feeling ill. I am not a good patient and don’t like this feeling of not having any energy. As bad as I feel now, I know I am lucky compared to some others I know who are also fighting this flu. One of my neighbors has been living on Popsicles and ginger ale for about a week and my mom got a touch of it too and she said her stomach has been off for about four days.
My intention is to perhaps read a little since I finally have time to begin A Year In Provence, a colorful and beautifully written story which I have always meant to read, and sleep, sleep and more sleep!
Hopefully tomorrow I will begin to feel more like myself. Please take care of yourselves too!
