One of my sisters became a grandmother this year and I now look forward to receiving short videos from her of the precious time she spends with her granddaughter.  I never get tired of watching this little bundle of energy!

We haven’t had a baby in our family for many years since the youngest of the grandchildren are now in high school (A whole other world!).  Watching my sister’s granddaughter reminds me of something that I had forgotten: how quickly children change and the beauty of persistence.  Crawling and pulling herself up to a table, focusing on getting her balance and then falling.  And then doing it all over again.  And again.

It’s the repetition of her actions that brings home to me the lesson of continuing to try, making the effort to untangle a problem over and over and eventually finding a solution that works for me.  I take for granted that a baby will go through this process of teaching themselves how to stand and to walk and eventually run but it’s also uplifting to watch it with fresh eyes.

This beautiful 10-month-old baby girl is showing me how to make the effort to move through my challenges.  She doesn’t get too upset if she falls.  She sits on the floor, as though gathering her strength and focus, and tries again.  I can tell that it is hard work for her but that doesn’t stop her.

Her spirit and joy are uplifting!  In many ways that is the gift that babies give to us: to see life new again through their eyes, to see life through a prism that is simplified!

She reminds me to reach out, to accept, to try and to take a break when you need one.

Laugh at yourself and then try again!
