Tossing Broken Glass

The other morning I woke up and immediately went downstairs to the kitchen to have my first cup of hot tea.  I have been fighting a cold and cough and was looking forward to its warmth. I was still not quite awake when I opened up the cabinet door to grab my favorite mug featuring the skyline of New York City on the side.  It felt as though I had it in my hand but then I lost my grip and it quickly came crashing to the floor. How the hell did that happen?  Now instead of drinking much needed… Read More

A Lovely Diamond Heart

And then there are acts of love that people randomly do that are often so selfless as to take your breath away. Upon reading the healing and tender story from Associated Press I am sharing below, I think it definitely fits into the category of giving when it hurts. The giving part of the story involves wedding rings.  I say to you, Lovely Boston Widow, I can’t imagine giving away my wedding rings in that manner, but at the same time, I say more power and blessings to you Lovely Boston Widow for doing it. High five!! Nothing so publicly… Read More

A Cheeky Children’s Christmas Pageant

December 8th, 2014

Many, many years ago, when the grandchildren in our family were actually children, my Mom and Dad would let them go wild in their linen closet and take any of the sheets, towels, bedspreads and table cloths they wanted to create costumes and then put on a home production of the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. For sure, it was quite a menagerie of costumes for shepherds, animals, Mary the mother of Jesus. Joseph the carpenter and Mary’s husband and of course, the youngest, no matter whether he or she was a baby or not, got to play the… Read More

Survivor Friday

I’m blowing my nose and coughing while waiting for the Airborne to dissolve in a glass of water. Ugh! I have a cold. But I’m going to carry on and I’m so thankful that it’s Friday. How are you doing out there?  Glad for the week to end? Here we go with a song to inspire us today and keep us going! It’s a classic blast from the not too distant past: Destiny’s Child sings Survivor which is what I intend to do and you and I can hang in there until it’s quitting time at work and then relax… Read More

Ways To Change the Holiday Menu

I was a very fat baby.  A happy baby but also an overweight baby. I have this theory that all of those fat cells from my infancy are still with me, lying dormant, and whenever I decide to indulge in all things buttery and/or sugary, those same fat cells immediately wake up because they instinctively know it’s a chance to plump up again. It doesn’t take much for me to change my eating habits from good to bad, slapping those extra pounds back on and over Thanksgiving break I could feel it was beginning to happen to me again. It’s… Read More

“When we make room for silence we make room for ourselves… silence invites the unknown, the untamed, the wild, the shy, the unfathomable- that which rarely has a chance to surface within us.” Gunilla Norris – Sharing Silence From Thanksgiving to yesterday.  These past four days have been amazing! I can’t believe how much I relaxed!  I hope you also had a chance to veg out and wind down over the Thanksgiving break! The holiday season is just starting and as crazy and fun as it can be to get ready for it, we all need a break from the… Read More

One Thankful Chick

When I sit down today to share Thanksgiving dinner with different generations of my family, I will be mindful of the many blessings I have received this year, blessings that have helped me find a healing path and blessings that definitely make me one thankful chick. In turn, I hope your blessings this Thanksgiving are also bountiful as you spend time relaxing and having fun with your loved ones. And while blessings are the focus of today’s holiday, I am still one of those people imagining a chair at the Thanksgiving table wishing a deceased loved one might be sitting… Read More

Changing Up Holiday Rituals

My parents, some of my siblings and some of my in-laws flew to Ireland this past Saturday and will be spending Thanksgiving this year in different  country. It should fun and interesting and certainly different for them as well as the rest of my family for now we are changing up the places where we will go to celebrate Thanksgiving this year and who we will have a chance to see on the day.  I must say that given the fact that we are a large boisterous family, most of us do try to stay flexible about the different ways… Read More
