Being Brave

When I am about to deal with a potentially stressful situation like one happening this weekend, I start thinking about it before it even happens.

Does that happen to you?  What’s up with that?

Wellllll, since I can’t avoid this particular situation, it’s possible that it’s about me thinking it’s a good idea to get ready for it by putting on some so-called protective armor in case things go South quickly and I need to deflect what’s being said and not take it to heart.  As always, I remind myself over and over to stay open to the possibilities of … Read More

Back To The Garden

My son and I recently spent a Sunday afternoon meandering around the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia and it reminded me once again of the importance of taking time to immerse yourself in the calming and healing beauty of nature. I was not particularly stressed out when we entered the spectacular gardens but after walking around among the themed gardens and gentle water fountains for about ten minutes, I found myself slowing down and suddenly stopping on the path to take a deep breath and truly look and listen to where I was at that moment.  We sat… Read More

Mornings of Good Karma

Wednesday night I was so tired I forgot to set my alarm clock.  Needless to say, I overslept by a half hour.  I must say I felt more rested Thursday morning than I usually do but that extra thirty minutes of sleep put me behind in the things that I usually do in the morning to ready to go to work. I looked at the clock and asked myself, “Do you really need to do all of those things this morning?  Would the world fall apart if you happened to do them later in the day?” I decided that some… Read More

Creative Healing

Photo By Patti RaabBlue Grotto Isle of Capri I find the word healing to be a comforting word.  You know how there are some words that when you say them or read them they just make you feel better, more peaceful?  Well, that’s the way that I feel about the word healing. When I think about healing, I feel as though I have softly placed a cozy blanket around myself.  Protected.  I could be with someone I care about or I could be by myself.  But when I think about coming to a place of healing I think about using… Read More

A Fabulous Friday Mindset

October 17th, 2014

By the time Friday arrives on my doorstep, I am usually ready to attack a pint of ice cream, preferably Ben & Jerry’s chocolate chip cookie dough. I sometimes allow myself this indulgence because after all it’s Friday and I’m using the ice cream as a way of patting myself on the back for having survived the turmoil of another work week.  I wouldn’t say that eating a pint of ice cream is healing in the classic sense, but it certainly heals my soul at a time when I need it. But also know it’s not good for me.  That… Read More

Believe Something Good

It’s been a long week.  Five full days of flat out working, thinking, planning, creating and sometimes worrying. Does this sound like the way your week unrolled?  Or maybe your week was more exciting? Either way, please join me in a big shout out to the end of the week: HAPPY FRIDAY!! Little by little, things got done and accomplishments happened; especially a goal I had set up for myself at the beginning of the week to put aside time to reach out to those close to me who are in need of encouragement and emotional support. I hope for… Read More

The Ever-Changing Game of Life

A Quote By Mary Oliver The wise quote above, written by Mary Oliver, seems on the surface to be expressing a rather obvious idea. Right? When I first read it, I almost dismissed it for I had brought Oliver’s thought into my mind too quickly and didn’t really let the underlying message sink in. Then I read it again and let it float around in my mind while I began to apply it to my own life. How many times do I go through the day rereading the chapter I read the day before?  In other words, if I keep… Read More
