My niece is getting married this Saturday and everyone in my large boisterous family is looking forward to getting together and celebrating this wonderful occasion.  Months and months of preparation have gone into planning this special day and I think my sister will absolutely have a fit if it doesn’t all go off perfectly!

No matter what happens, I know it will be a beautiful day, a day filled with great memories.  For me, it will be another reason why Nov. 12 stands out on the calendar.  My niece’s wedding will also be sharing the date of the day my … Read More

Happy Friday Everyone!  I posted this cute little bit about a boy and his Dad just because it is so sweet. After a rough week out there in Adult Land, I needed something simple and straightforward. Have a great weekend!!  Everyone needs recognition for his accomplishments, but few people make the need known quite as clearly as the little boy  who said to his father: “Let’s play darts.  I’ll throw and you say ‘Wonderful!'” –From The Best of Bits & Pieces… Read More

Every day I try to maintain a positive attitude about life.  I remind myself that I am blessed for having family, friends, a home, a job and good health.  I tell myself that this day is unique and I have an opportunity to do something I didn’t get to do yesterday.  But it is still an anxious world we live in these days and we need to be aware of its’ toll on others. I am certain that God has a plan for all of us.  I am sure there are people out there who don’t believe in God or… Read More

I found the below story, beautifully written by Colleen Wilson, from the excellent website, Hello Grief, to be uplifting. As we all continue with our quest to find a healing place for our grief feelings, I hope that each of us is able to find our own moments of grace. Moments of Grace By Colleen Wilson http://www.hellogrief.org October 5, 2011 As many grieving people know, keeping a loved one’s memory alive after they die can be a difficult task. There are many images, voices, smells and memories that you want to remember forever, but each day it can become a… Read More

Be Careful Out There

A good friend of mine recently introduced me to Gospel Star Marvin Sapp and his daily spiritual insights called “Marvin’s Motivational Moment.”  Family, jobs, personal interests and personal predicaments.  The combination of all these factors leads to us living in a rushed and complex world that can easily be stressful and overwhelming.  That gives us all the more reason to stake out personal time to evaluate what’s happening and regroup; to take stock of what’s happening to us, and I mean REALLY happening to us, instead of making our usual schedules of endless commitments and appointments as our top priority.… Read More

Hi readers!  Today we have a guest blogger, Ryan O’Toole, a rising senior at Fordham University, and in the interest of full disclosure, my son: Isn’t it funny that there are words for people whose spouses die?  A woman whose husband dies is called a widow, while a man whose wife dies is called a widower. Now the sheer existence of these words might not seem odd to you at face value, but doesn’t it strike you as a weird oversight of the English language that we do not have words for children who lose a parent?  I have thought… Read More

This post is a big shout out to all of the wonderful men out there who love and provide for their beautiful children.  If your Dad is no longer alive, I hope you tell funny and sentimental stories about him today or think about the special things you did together.  I’d also like to give some recognition to the fantastic men who continually reach out to the children who need a Dad in their lives. Father’s Day is a celebration of all Dads and all of the important emotional and material contributions they make for the good of their families… Read More
