A Change Is Gonna Come

I am happier when I have an idea of what my day is going to bring, but most of the time I really have no idea what the next 24 hours is going to be like.

I know the time of appointments, deadlines, and fun stuff, such as having lunch or dinner with friends or family, but otherwise my time is pretty much open for anything.  Excuse my French, but shit happens, as they say, and life can throw me and you a surprise curve ball without a heads up that it’s coming our way.  I don’t know why it … Read More

I do not at all understand the mystery of grace — only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.           ~ Anne Lamott… Read More

Strength Through Sharing

February 10th, 2014

Sharing my stories, and those of others, can entertain, offer strength and inspiration and sometimes minimize the isolation that is felt in relationships or personal crisis.  I share to bond, to reach out, to reveal that I am vulnerable just like you. No one knows when someone else’s story will unexpectedly touch a life and help another person gain a new perspective on grief, a subject people they know about but in fact they don’t.  Someone else’s words can bring new understanding to the issues of life and death,  of physical and emotional survival and help you see things differently.… Read More

Something To Think About. . . . . “Vulnerability is not about winning, and it’s not about losing. It’s about having the courage to show up and be seen.”                                            ~ Brene Brown… Read More

Creative Encouragement

Each day is a new opportunity to find inspiration! People, nature, architecture, words, acts of kindness or even criticism can spark inspiration in me to go forward and think about my life in a new or different way.  The world around us can serve to fuel the fire of our inner creativity or cause us to shift our ideas about the way life happens. Inspiration keeps me going and renews my faith and hope in the future of myself and others.  Regardless of where you find yourself right now or what happened to you last week, last month or last… Read More

Hunk A Hunk A Birthday Fun

January 8th, 2014

Today is a special day.  It’s my birthday and it’s also Elvis Presley’s birthday. Uh, Thank you. Uh, Thank you very much! I’m not wearing a tight white jumpsuit today or gold wired sunglasses and I’m not wearing my hair slicked back.  And I’m not suggesting that I can sing or act but I do find it  a lot of fun that Elvis and I share a birthday because as I was growing up it would always be in the news that Elvis was having a birthday on my birthday and of course his was always a bigger celebration! Kris Carr’s Golden Ticket

I recently wrote about some of the good things I learned about surviving a personal trauma in the ten years after my husband’s death (No Lifeguard On Duty http://crylaughheal.com/no-lifeguard-on-duty/).  After that post was published, many people told me they found it helpful to know how things feel ten years after a loss. No matter how crazy and afraid you feel after a loss, it’s essential to keep trying to find the support you need until you discover a different way to live.  Even though change is the last thing you want to do, change is possible.  It feels as though… Read More

The Pink Month

October 25th, 2013

When I see pink products for sale during the month of October, I wonder how much of the money really goes to researching a cure for breast cancer.  Probably not very much. I know I’m not alone in this thought because I’ve heard and read similar comments from others discussing the reason why these products are being sold.  Buy them because you like them or need them.  But I think most people now see those oh so pretty pink-ribboned products as a merchandising trick better left alone. If anything good has come out of the marketing of these pink products,… Read More

Love On A Two Way Street

I went to Trader Joe’s after work the other evening to pick up some up their fabulous pita chips and instead gained some insight into a different part of life in DC: being a homeless vendor. Near the entrance of the store stood a man, who introduced himself to me as David.  He was selling newspapers called Street Sense which I have previously written about.   This vendor was middle-aged and friendly but not in an aggressive way.  He was just talking to people and smiling, letting them know that his newspaper was for sale and that he was a writer.… Read More
