caregiving-heart

When I typed “caregiving” into the Google search bar the following phrases immediately came up:

Caregiving is difficult

Caregiving is ruining my marriage

Caregiving is a thankless job

Caregiving is killing me

Wow!.  More and more families are faced with issues of caregiving and are feeling the physical and emotional drain of it no matter how much you care about and love the person you are trying to help.

Caregiving can be rewarding in surprising ways but it also can be challenging in ways you never imagined.

I come from a large family and I really can’t remember a time … Read More

Thriving In Fresh Air

March 28th, 2016

Fresh air is necessary.  It delivers oxygen and new thoughts to our souls and helps us begin again. It’s that feeling that you get when you have been working inside for awhile and then you go outside, take a really deep breath and feel renewed. Yes.  I think I can go on. Fresh air.  Open the windows and let old frustrations escape and fly away while welcoming the new fresh spring air. We need it for our well being to grow and thrive. Fresh air gives us strength and resolve to stay on track. I came upon this uplifting… Read More

A Graceful Monday

Shhhh….something tells me it’s Monday. I’m feeling mellow this morning and perhaps this has something to do with turning the clocks forward this past weekend and losing an hour as we spring forward in to daylight savings time.  I totally love the longer day, full of more daylight and opportunities to socialize outdoors, but I have to admit that it is a bit of an adjustment for the body, especially in the beginning. I’m moving a bit slowly today as I’m sure you might be too.  Sort of like molasses or even like a garden snail. Spring will arrive soon… Read More

Friday Is Special

Fridays are special and let me count some of the reasons why: — end of the work week — beginning of the weekend — hopeful — full of possibility — triggers need to hum, sing, dance or all three! — time to get together with family or friends — relax by thinking of inspiring thoughts such as the following two I recently discovered: Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you. ~ Lao-Tzu I do not at all understand the mystery of grace… Read More

Let Them Eat Cake

A Variety of Wedding Cakes Weddings are the ultimate in family celebrations and June 11 is the big day for my son and his wonderful fiancé! As many of you already know, wedding planning is made up of hundred of decisions, large and small and as with most things life, the process is so different from when I got married decades ago. I mean this in a good way because now there are more choices about invitations, places to get married and of course, the cake which makes the wedding feel that much more personal, reflecting the styles of the… Read More

Lodro’s Ah-Ha Insight

In the Oscar-award winning movie, Dream Girls, an insightful song is featured about practicing patience.  The lyrics (written by Henry Krieger and Willie Reale) go as follows: I know you have questions Same ones as me How long has it been? How long will it be? When will come the morning To drive the night away? When will come the morning Of a brighter day? Patience, little sisters Patience, little brothers Patience, patience Take each other by the hand Finding patience is something I struggle with.  Constantly.  I put it right out there.  Finding the patience to handle… Read More

In With The New

January 2016. With a new year comes questions. What do I want to change?  Do I want to change anything?  How can I change? Is it too late to learn something new? I ask myself about how I would like to live in this New Year of 2016. I ask myself if I am in my own way.  I ask myself if I am preventing certain personal changes from happening. Probably so and that’s where my work begins.  With my personal behavior. For me, being present in each day and living it the best I can is one of… Read More

Happy New Year 2016

And now let us welcome the New Year Full of things that have never been.                                    ~ Rainer Maria Rilke On this last day of 2015, I find myself reflecting, probably just as you are, on how the year went by so quickly, on some of the good and bad things that happened and what I have might learned from all of these amazing experiences. It seems like the natural thing to do. 2015 has been quite a year, bringing all sorts of surprises, but it also brought me a renewed sense of discovery.  A sense of appreciating instead of just… Read More

You Are Merrily Appreciated

I pause today to extend my best wishes to all no matter what holiday you may celebrate this time of year. Throughout this holiday season, may peace and joy be with you and your families. Holidays are great opportunities to celebrate life but I find they are also difficult to manage because we bring so many emotions and expectations to them each and every year.  Don’t think I am being a Scrooge when I say that the decorations, the music, the food, and the rituals are important, but I am of the mindset these days that if something doesn’t… Read More
