Many would say that the oppressive heat that has been visiting the Washington, DC area is proof.

Or they might say that the proof is in the feast of freshly picked juicy strawberries that fill the local grocery stores and farmer’s markets.

On the other hand, the roses and hydrangeas are bursting in bloom and that could also be proof.

But for me, the proof that Summer is here is the seemingly instant appearance of lightning bugs that tease and flit through the warm summer air.

I saw the first ones of Summer the other night when I went … Read More

The Washington, DC weather on Saturday may have been rainy, foggy and dreary but it had  no affect on the atmosphere inside one cozy house in Northwest DC where it was bright, warm and full of happiness. Was this house in some kind of weather bubble? Yes it was because it was the site of a birthday party that my super duper spectacular friends gave for me and I can say without hesitation that it was the best birthday party ever!!  Talk about healing!  Wow!  I was feeling the love and it was totally through the stratosphere for me in… Read More

On this Christmas Eve, that seemed to arrive so quickly this year, I hope Santa is good to you and brings you exactly what you wished for.  Santa is one busy dude you know so don’t forget to put out the milk and cookies for him!  Sometimes we leave him a nice cold beer because we know that with all of his dashing around that he has worked up quite a thirst! Being A Mommy

On June 25, 1990 my life changed forever. I gave birth to a magical baby boy and I discovered a kind of love I had never known before. A fierce, unconditional and wondrous kind of love that continues to take my breath away! I say surprising because I was totally unprepared for the depth and the size of this love for my son.  As the oldest of six children and one of 35 first cousins, I grew up constantly surrounded by babies and toddlers.  Also, there is only seven years separating me and the youngest of my siblings, who are… Read More

Possessions R Us

Though memories of a loved one who has passed on continue to be vivid and stored forever in a special place in my memory bank, isn’t it incredible when one single possession can have the power to bring back all the complications of your relationship with that person? For me, it is a red and blue knit cap with a New York Giants logo sewed on the front. My husband treasured that hat and wore it every day that the temperature allowed.  The year after my husband died, my father gave me tickets to the NY Giants-Washington Redskins game at… Read More

Christmas in NYC

My son and I took a quick trip to New York City this past weekend, continuing a family tradition started in his childhood.  New York City is magical to us and especially so at Christmas time. Yes, there are a lots of people in the city, especially around Rockefeller Center where the huge Christmas tree in all its glory is displayed, but to us it is worth the effort of manevering in and out of the crowds and then suddenly being able to break through and look up and see the thousands of dazzling lights covering the infamous Christmas tree… Read More

New Orleans Deserves A Break

My son drywalling in New Orleans The people who live in the magical city of New Orleans know about resilience.  In fact, Webster’s dictionary should probably publish a picture of the city of New Orleans next to the word “resilience” to add depth to the word’s definition. Residents of New Orleans have proved over and over that they do have an incredible inner strength that gives them the “can-do” attitude to forge ahead and bounce back from natural disasters, the worst of which was Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and now is Hurricane Isaac. The rebuilding of New Orleans after Katrina… Read More
