I am. You are. Everyone is.
If we don’t breath, then we’re in big trouble, right?
But we can change the rhythm of our breathing depending on what’s happening to us.
It sounds so simple doesn’t it? Just change. But I have found it takes practice. It takes being aware of what I’m doing.
Many times, without realizing it, I find I am walking around almost holding my breath because I am dealing with two or three things at the same time. Sometimes I’m at work or I can be at home but I am not fully breathing when I am in a pressure situation.
Sitting in backed up traffic this week, I found myself taking deep breaths instead of putting my hand on the car horn.
Did it work?
Sometimes. To be honest there were time when I couldn’t help myself because I was so frustrated with the traffic delays, but then there where other times when I did remind myself to take a deep breath and slowly exhale and it did make me stop and rethink what I automatically wanted to do.
Today I offer up a soothing poem I recently found on the joy of breathing. I truly love it and I hope you do too!
Just By Breathing
By Danna Faulds
With each breath,
I take it in,
all the unique
outpourings of spirit
and the eloquent
expressiveness of now.
With each breath,
I let it out, all my
disempowerment
and doubt, my arms-
length distance from
the infinite and real.
Just by breathing.
I am healed.
