 Baby Shower Table Scape

Notice the whale as centerpiece

My Mom and I hosted a baby shower for my niece yesterday and it was healing in a fun way to pause with my other sisters and close relatives to celebrate the arrival of a new family member.

I think it’s always good news when a baby is on the way; beginnings are always exciting and so full of hope!

At the shower we had an advice jar where people wrote their tips on slips of paper for my helping my niece transition to motherhood.  Here are a few examples … Read More

Yes! We have landed on Friday and it feels great right? To start Friday off in the right way, a friend shared a quirky and funny CBC Radio Wire Tap video with me and now I’d like to share it with you because that’s what friends do. If you have a little over four minutes, please watch this video until the end because there is a guy who really made me laugh and I think he will have the same effect on you. Have a great weekend and feel free to share this with your other friends! You… Read More

Constructive Living

September 28th, 2015

So I find myself in an emotional place where I constantly feed my soul and busy brain with positive thoughts about life and the people that I care about. I also am working on centering myself through mediation and am learning the value of breathing. And I pray all the time: in the morning when I wake up, in the car, at work, at the grocery store and before I fall asleep. Yet several frustrating situations in my personal life continue to happen. Over and over again.  Even when I try to take regular breaks from the stress of them.… Read More

A Kind Connection

Mondays can sometimes feel a bit painful right? I find it helpful to plunge into a new work week by thinking about something positive or fun that may have happened to me over the weekend and those good feelings can help carry me through Monday. Something I will be thinking about today was an act of kindness that happened over the weekend from a person I hardly know. I was at a new yoga class on Saturday and while we were rolling up our mats after a peaceful session, some of us began to talk about Pope Francis and his… Read More

Hitting The Pause Button

This post may seem random but I promise if you hang with me I think you’ll see where I’m going. When I get home from work in the evening, I need to get out of my thoughts and do something that distracts me or relaxes me from whatever happened during the day.  I think it’s fair to say that most of us need to tune out the noise of everyday life and protect our well being. For me, I have to switch gears and clear my mind of work stuff.  There are usually two ways for me to do… Read More

Baby, I Miss You

September 11th, 2015

“I miss you.” It’s as simple and as complicated as a human emotion can be. Today is one of those days when thousands of Americans, including myself, will set aside time to remember and honor an event that changed us as human beings and Americans. It’s also one of those days when people around the globe will silently, angrily, tearfully and wistfully say, “I miss you,” as they remember a deceased loved one. For today is a day when the nation mentally turns the clock back 14 years to September 11, 2001, that horrific day of terrorism attacks in New… Read More

Sweet Summer Stress Reduction

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.                ~ Anne Lamott There’s a rumor floating around that summer is over but I don’t believe one word of it. Temperatures in Washington, DC are still hovering in the low 90’s, corn on the cob is still in season, along with awesome tasty tomatoes, and I’m continuing to wear flip flops to work even though the calendar says September. I admit I have seen a few signs that some kind of seasonal change is upon us such as leaves changing colors and falling off trees,… Read More

A Cup Of Healing

A wonderful friend recently gave me the hand made ceramic cup pictured above. Sometimes I keep it on my kitchen counter or the desk where I work on my computer.  And then sometimes I put it on my bedroom chest of drawers.  I like to move it around the house because there is something comforting about it’s handmade texture and it brings to mind the simple yet special things about life. Things that ease my frantic feelings when I am stressed.  Such as receiving an unexpected telephone call from someone I haven’t heard from in a long time or… Read More

The Glass Castle — Memoir

Author Jeannette Walls   I became aware of this amazing book in the same way that I learn about lots of good things: through my friends. I’m not sure how I missed this powerful story because The Glass Castle was published in 2005, received numerous awards and was a New York Times Bestseller for three years. But the important thing is that I did find out about it.  And once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. The Glass Castle is a revealing story that I came to think of as Resilience 101.  I say this because when I read… Read More
