Me (left) and My Sister Sheila (right) with our Dad

Wow! I don’t know about you but this past weekend just flew!!

Mine was full of family activities and I was glad to get to all of them but in making sure it all got done, it seems that the weekend was spent going from one event to the next, and now I find, in the blink of an eye, that it’s Monday morning.

I hope your weekend was productive and/or lots of fun and that many good things happened to you.

Looking back on the past several days it … Read More

My Sparkly Brain

Hey there my Resilient Friends! Any project that the multi-talented Amy Poehler gets involved in always catches my interest. Besides being hysterically funny, she is an authentically original entertainer who isn’t afraid to go against popular trends; especially the trend of superficiality that young girls can sometimes fall into.  I love her dedication to helping and healing young people by encouraging them to “change the world by being yourself.” Getting involved in your community is one way of giving back, and Poehler says, volunteering for that kind of activism also helps young people get comfortable with their true selves… Read More

A Renewing Morning Intention

November 2nd, 2015

Every day I choose to begin the day with a healing intention. I promise it doesn’t take much time. Often before we even open our eyes after a night’s sleep, our minds are taking in conflicting thoughts. Maybe we have an early morning appointment.  Maybe we don’t feel well.  Maybe we need to get the kids off to school.  Maybe we need to get to work.  Maybe we have all of these things going on and the morning has already slipped into an crazy example of life in the fast lane. Instead of trying to keep up with the snowballing… Read More

Waiting for The Great Pumpkin

Halloween arrives this weekend and it brings back very fond memories of me and my husband taking our son out to trick or treat in different neighborhoods and watching him run from door to door with his friends, so excited and amazed to be getting free candy! I remember all of his costumes, some of which I made myself (Thomas The Tank Engine and Simba) and some that I bought at the store (Cookie Monster and Ninja Warrior). The cute, cute, cute picture above is of one of my son’s first Halloweens.  He loved his Spider Man pajamas so… Read More

Walkin’ Off Those Cupcakes

October 26th, 2015

If you are anything like me, I have a tendency to overindulge on sweet treats over the weekends.  Especially now that Halloween candy seems to be everywhere!! Is it me or does it seem that right around the holidays the sugar manufacturers manage to introduce some new combination of ooey, gooey chocolatey temptation that we really don’t need but have to try? I try hard to crank up the amount of exercise I do every day to counteract the extra weekend calories but it just seems to get harder every year to work off those extra LBs. It’s a never… Read More

Grief And Honest Conversations

October 23rd, 2015

Just as we all grieve differently, we all heal differently. Healing is a personal search for hope; a trial and error process of looking for a new purpose; a way to feel a little more centered again as you try to make sense of what life is about for you and perhaps your children after a loved one’s death. I think it took me about eight to ten months after my husband’s death to realize that I couldn’t figure it all out on my own and I had to find help. Unfortunately, as much as family and friends try to… Read More

The renowned British author, J. K. Rowling When life is zipping along and everything seems to be working as if it were a lean mean beautiful machine of happy events, it’s difficult to imagine that it won’t always continue that way. And for you it is my fondest wish that happy events constantly fill your life. And I do mean constantly! But sometimes the plan of life changes and tragically, marriages fail, jobs are lost and loved ones lose their battles with illness.  It feels as though everything is in a painful disarray and everything seems complicated; making no sense … Read More

One Groovy Lavender Road Trip

October 16th, 2015

Road trips are part of the American way of life. Maybe this weekend you, your friends or family have a road trip planned to take advantage of this transitional time of year: picking out your special pumpkins, checking out the leaves turning glorious reds and yellows or just visiting a new destination. Road trips can help us recharge our inner selves.  You know.  That inner voice.  That oh so precious deep core of ourselves that keeps us one with the horizon and helps us process the ups and downs of this beautiful and crazy trip called life. I know… Read More

The Martian and Grief

Actor Matt Damon Plays An Astronaut In the newly released movie, The Martian My 25-year-old son went to see the new Matt Damon movie, The Martian, the other night and he was telling me that he enjoyed it a lot because it made him think about his deceased father. The Martian is a new movie about an astronaut who is mistakenly left on Mars, presumed to be dead after a fierce storm.  It’s a warm science fiction, adventure techie kind of movie that pokes fun at the geekier side of life. My son’s Dad was an award-winning journalist who covered… Read More
