I am always on the lookout for books about how people deal with adversity and in “She’s Come Undone,” the incredible writer Wally Lamb introduces readers to a resilient and unforgettable character by the name of Dolores Price.

This is one of those books that I have heard friends enthusiastically talk about for a long time and I have always intended to read it.  Well, I finally took the time to read it for myself and “She’s Come Undone” is truly a great read!

This is a story of love and hope and the importance of friendship in dealing with the bad breaks of life.  There are dark points in the life of Dolores but her humor and wry way of looking at life made her irresistible as I came to know her topsy-turvy life story.  I don’t want to go into specifics but Dolores has many tragedies sent her way, ones that might cause others to fall apart,  but something within Dolores, her core determination, keeps her bending but never entirely breaking; keeps her continuing to reach out to others and carry on with her mixed up life.  Very quickly you realize that Dolores’ snarky and sometimes mean remarks are used to protect her feelings and to cover up her vulnerabilities.

That same core determination that keeps Dolores moving forward also motivates her to continue searching and searching for love, any kind of love, sometimes in some terribly wrong places.  From the moment I first met the character of Dolores Price as a four-year-old child and continuing through to her adulthood, I continued to cheer for her.  I wanted her to persevere and she does!

I loved this book and thought it was ironic that it was written by a man! Wally Lamb totally gets inside the head of Dolores Price and honestly and authentically writes about her thoughts and her conversations about men, about her weight, about getting along with her mother and grandmother and the female perspective of trying to keep a relationship together even when we know it’s not working.

“She’s Come Undone” is a tender story, a healing story and one in which Dolores and her big heart take you on a one-of-a-kind ride.

Check it out for yourself.  I think you’ll like it!!
