I was cleaning out my car over the weekend and found a Vanessa Williams CD under one of the car seats that I used to play all the time.  Don’t you love it when you unexpectedly find things that you forgot about?  I think the best surprise is when you put on a jacket or a coat you haven’t worn in awhile and you find money in the pockets.  Yes! Isn’t that a great feeling?

In any case, getting back to my newly found CD, music is always a great friend.  Every morning as I drive to work, I … Read More

Drinking Sunshine

February 22nd, 2016

This past weekend the winter weather window opened up for a well-timed warming trend and for a few hours our buddy The Sun popped through the cold and the clouds and energized everything in its path. It gave me hope that Spring is really and truly on the way and with it a renewed sense of purpose. What an energy boost! As I sat in my car waiting for the traffic light to turn green, I closed my eyes and drank in as much sunshine and Vitamin D as possible.  Basking in the sun always gives me a… Read More

Earth Wind & Fire Remembered

Maurice White Courtesy of Getty Images   The music that some bands create can be so distinctive that you know their songs right away.  Almost instantly.  As in when you hear the first few bars of a song, you know it’s theirs and theirs alone. Falling into this unique category would be the fabulous and funky music created by the hit making machine called Earth, Wind & Fire. Maurice White, a major musical talent who founded Earth, Wind & Fire and co-wrote such hits as “Shining Star,” “Sing A Song,” “September,” “Reasons,” and “Fantasy,” sadly died last week in his… Read More

Guess Who’s Breathing?

I am.  You are.  Everyone is. If we don’t breath, then we’re in big trouble, right? But we can change the rhythm of our breathing depending on what’s happening to us. It sounds so simple doesn’t it?  Just change.  But I have found it takes practice.  It takes being aware of what I’m doing. Many times, without realizing it, I find I am walking around almost holding my breath because I am dealing with two or three things at the same time.  Sometimes I’m at work or I can be at home but I am not fully breathing when… Read More

Experiencing The Holiday Spirit

Don’t you find that every Christmas has its own vibe and dynamic? I reminisce about Christmases past and there are things that stand out that I will never ever forget. From childhood Christmases, there is always the cozy sounds of Johnny Mathis while running around in my pajamas getting ready to put out cookies and milk for Santa on Christmas Eve.  Adult Christmases bring back loving memories of my late husband and those first Christmases with our young son.  I remember those Christmases as being simple in decorations and gifts and always having a feeling of innocence. And then there… Read More

A Renewing Morning Intention

November 2nd, 2015

Every day I choose to begin the day with a healing intention. I promise it doesn’t take much time. Often before we even open our eyes after a night’s sleep, our minds are taking in conflicting thoughts. Maybe we have an early morning appointment.  Maybe we don’t feel well.  Maybe we need to get the kids off to school.  Maybe we need to get to work.  Maybe we have all of these things going on and the morning has already slipped into an crazy example of life in the fast lane. Instead of trying to keep up with the snowballing… Read More

Silence is Golden

Every day, in small ways, I now try to disconnect myself from electronic devices for short periods of time. That may sound ironic since I am writing this post on a computer and will later talk about it on social media but as much as I enjoy using a computer or an iPhone, I also see that they distract me from participating in the quieter moments of life. This light bulb moment came to me recently this summer during a couple of visits to our family farm in southern Maryland.  When I was a young child, it was more of… Read More

Ways of Encouragement

May 21st, 2015

You’re having a day. Guess what?  So am I! Let’s join each other in encouragement. We know it’s hard.  It’s stressful and sometimes it’s even lonely and painful. And yet I know I don’t want to give up.  And I know you don’t want to either.  Because right around that corner or even the next time we try to go at a problem and process those feelings of frustration, there is the possibility that it could go away. Right? What is the purpose of always being in a position of trying to solve something?  Sometimes I’m not sure.  Sometimes, I… Read More

Monday Calm & Renewal

May 18th, 2015

It’s Monday.  I know.  I hear myself joining you in a collective groan. But instead of immediately thinking of all the things I need to accomplish this week, I am going to pause.  And breathe.  Deeply.  Closing my eyes again (not to go back to sleep) and letting my neck slowly drop as I breathe in and remain still. I am determined not to be in a hurry.  I don’t want to rush and I don’t want to be late but I also need to fill my emotional reserves with a feeling of inner calm before I tackle a new… Read More
