The Fear of Tears

Earlier this week, my son and I were reminiscing about our journey through the college and high school years that occurred immediately after his father’s/my husband’s death and in the midst of talking we started laughing about a period of time that was quite painful and confusing for us.

What’s up with that?

It surprised us that this happened and I thought I would share this experience with my wonderful readers because it might help someone to know that there is always hope and that things can turn themselves around when you least expect it.  If our conversation helps someone … Read More

Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don’t know how to laugh either”― Golda Meir Have you ever laughed so hard you started to cry or cried so hard you started to laugh? For me, I’m usually crying and then it somehow I’m laughing.  I’ve discovered there’s a thin line between the two and no one can tell you where and when one side is going to spill over into the other.  You don’t intend for this to happen but when it does, and it’s happened to most of us, the two emotions melt together… Read More

Take Good Care Of My Heart

Courtesy of United States Postal Service Decades ago, the CEOs of florist, chocolate and card companies must have been having a long liquid lunch and launched the ingenious idea of launching a fun holiday called Valentine’s Day. Valentine’s Day happens to be one of those holidays that has never been a big deal to me because it always feels forced.  I don’t want someone to give me chocolates, flowers or a card because they feel they have to do what everyone else is doing.  It means a lot more to me when the person I’m romantically involved with comes up… Read More

Dear Friends, We made it to Friday so let’s have some fun! Here’s a quote from the talented and classy actress, Audrey Hepburn: “I believe in pink.” ” I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.” I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.  I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.  I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”                                                                                       ~ Audrey Hepburn… Read More

Insight from Bridesmaids

One of the reasons the movie, Bridesmaids, is such a run-away hit is that women either know one of the characters or they see themselves in one of the characters. It’s also an insightful movie about the ups and downs of female friendships. Multi-talented comedian Kristen Wiig plays Annie, a 30ish, single young woman who has hit a rough spot in her life.  Nothing is working.  Her boyfriend uses her, she gets fired from her job, her car breaks down all the time, she moves in with her mother and on top of all that her best friend is getting… Read More

Photograph by Philippe GaravelIn Paris, lovers fasten padlocks to the railings of the Pont des Arts bridge.  The couple then tosses  the keys into the Seine river below, symbolizing their eternal love. Happy Friday everyone!  The following quote is from the last paragraph of the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thorton Wilder. I’m sharing it because I think it captures the essence of what we all strive to do while we are trying rebuilding our lives after the loss of a person near and dear to us: “We ourselves shall be loved for a while and forgotten. … Read More

Laughing Enriches Your Life

Laughing can make you relax and breathe. It’s really true, according to The Washington Post story below.   When times are tough, a sense of humor can help us cope.  I think it always makes you feel better if you can make fun of the person who is stressing you out or make a joke about the awful situation you’re in! A Positive Quality of Life

Photo by Eileen Milner Since living a healthy life is all about being positive, I thought the following sentiments would be a good way to start the day!  A friend saw the below inspiration on one of her friend’s Facebook page and I think it’s definitely worth sharing: Someone once said, “There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and  people who create it.   You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who… Read More

And the Winner Is…Amy Poehler

Tina Fey (left) and Amy Poehler (right) Comedian Amy Poehler broke new ground last night at the Emmys ceremony and I hope you saw it! I loved watching as the nominees for lead actress in a comedy series were read.  Amy’s name was first and she immediately jumped out of her chair, ran to the stage and then stayed there.  Nobody knew what she was doing but they knew it was going to be funny. Then as the rest of the category’s nominee’s names were read — Tina Fey, Martha Plimpton, Melissa McCarthy, Edie Falco and Laura Linney — each… Read More
