Mornings of Good Karma

good karma

Wednesday night I was so tired I forgot to set my alarm clock.  Needless to say, I overslept by a half hour.  I must say I felt more rested Thursday morning than I usually do but that extra thirty minutes of sleep put me behind in the things that I usually do in the morning to ready to go to work.

I looked at the clock and asked myself, “Do you really need to do all of those things this morning?  Would the world fall apart if you happened to do them later in the day?”

I decided that some … Read More

Be Bold Today

Monday. I know Mondays can be painful. Today was one of those Monday mornings when I turned and looked at the alarm clock and just cursed it something nasty because I wasn’t  ready to get up and go.  Today I have an early appointment and needed to get out of bed to start my morning routine earlier than usual so maybe that’s why I’m feeling a bit cranky but still, time is precious and I am committed to making this a productive day. For no day is a day that should be hurried along.  Monday needs to roll out at… Read More

Bodega Bay Coast By Michael Flick “Just take my hand, lead, dance with me… and I will simply follow the blueness of the water, the white waves rolling free… where the earth beneath my feet and stars make my heart whole again… in long and priceless moments of shared solitude…” ― Oksana Rus… Read More

Lessons from the Spin Cycle

September 24th, 2014

Photo via Pinterest   Whoa Nelly!! I know what this feels like, don’t you? It feels unexpected, awkward, a little uncontrollable and intense. As though at any moment, what you thought was stable becomes unstable. What you thought was predictable become unpredictable. Mood swings, spontaneous crying and having feelings change very quickly. I think of experiencing this mixture of feelings as being in a spin cycle if you will. When you are unsure of what is coming next.  It truly feels this way when grief has you on the run or a life changing trauma has taken your breath away.… Read More

Lots of children and parents in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia are waking up earlier than usual this morning and wondering what happened to the easy breezy days of summer.  They are looking at the calendar and staring at today’s date and thinking, “How did this happen?  How could today be the first day of school?” A new school year is time to look forward with a sense of hope.  It’s a chance to do things a little different and a little better.  First days of anything offer the opportunity for a fresh start.  Of course, there may also be… Read More

The Happiness Journey

Hey there Resilient Readers! A friend sent me the following quote yesterday and I liked it so much I wanted to share it with you right away. I hope this thought carries you through today and many days to come:   “Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.”  Denis Waitley Boxes of Freshly Picked RosesBy Sheila Hayes  … Read More

Musical Strength

Music can be an unexpected source of strength. Athletes use songs and soundtracks to help them focus prior to competition.  It’s pretty common to see athletes staring straight ahead in the locker room with their ear buds in place or warming up with ear buds and you know that whatever they are listening to is helping them get into some kind of a performance zone, taking them to a place where they can block out unnecessary thoughts and noise. I know that when I go for a walk or a run or a combination of the two, that listening to… Read More

A Happier Friday!

Something as simple as the day of the week can make me happy. I didn’t even work five days this week because Washington, DC got so much snow on Monday that the federal government shut down, the buses weren’t running and just like that, I had the day off. Still, today is Friday and that feels soooooo great!  The grind of this week is almost over and the weekend is within sight. Friday evening is one of the best feelings in the world, don’t you think? You’ve just finished working through one work week and now the whole incredible weekend… Read More

A Changed Life

Aging.  Knowing that it’s happening to all of us is not very consoling.  I see the effects of the years of living on myself, especially when someone takes a picture of me.  I definitely don’t like it and I wonder how I arrived at middle age so quickly. I know that sounds so cliché but it’s true.  I see those grey hairs working their way out of my scalp and for now those bad boys get dyed.  I also see lines starting to form on my face in places where I don’t want them but I don’t hate them so… Read More
