I was looking through my Instagram feed earlier this week and a picture popped up that was so totally out of season that it made me burst out laughing.  The picture was an almost arctic scene of the infamous Flatiron Building in New York City during a winter blizzard.

The contradiction of standing outside during the dog days of August while holding my phone and looking at a picture of the winter wind whipping people dressed in coats, hats, boots and gloves, walking with their heads down, knee deep in snow, as they tried to find shelter from the unforgiving downfall of snow was just too funny to me.  Brrrrrrr!

Here in Washington, DC, we have been experiencing near 100 degree weather off and on for most of this month and people are constantly wondering when it will end.  Not me of course.  I am a total Summerbird who is absolutely in love hot weather.

But, don’t get me wrong, I can easily understand why tropical weather is not for everyone.

So if the summer heat has been getting you all bothered and you don’t think you can stand drinking any more water to keep yourself hydrated, I am offering up a different healing taste treat that I discovered last month at the beach.

Homemade Lemonade mixed with lavender and honey.  It’s a summer classic with a fresh and organic twist!  Beyond refreshing.

I used and like this recipe that I found on a lovely website called Wonky Wonderful because it has a subtle taste of lavender (please make sure you use dried culinary lavender) mixed with the tangy taste of lemon and mixing in the honey smoothes out the whole drink so it doesn’t have a gritty sugary aftertaste.

Thinking cool during these lazy hazy daisy crazy hot and humid summer days is definitely a priority.  Go ahead, do something good for yourself and throw together a pitcher of cold honey lavender lemonade.  I hope you like it as much as I do.

CHEERS!

I think you’ll like it Kathy. Once you try it a couple of times you can vary the ingredients. The last time I made it I had a lot of lemons and so it was more of a lemony flavor rather than honey flavor. Let me know what you think…
