Can Adversity Be Useful?

When my world becomes full of too many problems, I look to others for their unique advice, inspiration and strength.  I find socializing is a good positive answer to lifting a bad mood.

look-ahead-and-believe

Having coffee and a long conversation with a friend can help me sometimes see that there is a way out of my stress; that things may feel overwhelming right now but it’s not a permanent situation.  Something better might be right around the corner and I just need to hang in there and ride this bad time out.

Besides hanging out with family and friends, I also … Read More

What’s the Buzz? Tara Reid tells us what she learned from talk radio.  4 LGBT refugees discuss why they came to the US.  Find out which “Friends” character should be your roommate. It’s Buzzfeed where the hottest, most social content on the web lives 24/7.  You know.  All the stuff you want to pass along to your friends. IMMEDIATELY.  To me, Buzzfeed is also a website where you find funny pictures of cats and dogs and read ALL about the latest wacky trends developing in pop culture. And to get right to it, Buzzfeed’s stories or lists are totally about… Read More

3 Irresistible Healing Summer Songs

This may sound weird but listening to songs about summer is a refuge for me. It’s a total sensory gut reaction.  As in when I hear a summer song that clicks within me, I mentally escape reality for a short time and my inner self begins to calm and heal.  It’s musical magic and for a few minutes the world full of noise is blocked out as I play my summer song over and over and over. You would think I was a teenager who just developed her first crush because I just won’t let go of it.  The winning… Read More

Woo! Woo! Readers!! I can see the weekend on the horizon!! And for Friday’s sake, we need a good laugh! Plain ole silly laughter just lightens our burdens and gives us a break from sadness and pain.  Even in the most difficult of times, laughter continually gives me the strength to keep going and hope for better days. I do have a tendency to make jokes about most of the things that happen to me and I think it just helps make me feel that the day will go smoother if I can laugh.  We all are familiar with that… Read More

An Absolute Amazing Thought

As a human community, we are constantly interacting with each other on different levels.  Working, playing, and collectively striving to figure out — often through some kind of spiritual activity — what it’s all about and the nature of our roles in this great journey of life. Yet as much as we think we know someone, I find sometimes that we only know the portion of another person’s story that they want us to know. By focusing and  listening to what others have to say to us and perhaps also watching how they react to various things that happen to… Read More

Off The Beaten Path

Some people say that vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in. I think it’s more that you have things to do but you do it when you want. And the things that you do are more for you than for others. I feel when a group of adult friends are on vacation that everyone is similar to being a free agent with no schedule.  My vacation philosophy is best reflected in the lyrics from “Go Where You Wanna Go,” sung in perfect group harmony by the 60’s rock folk group, The Mamas & the… Read More

3 Reasons For An Essential Break

I’ve been cranky.  I’ve been restless. I need a time out. Don’t send me to a corner.  Instead, please send me to the beach. The beach is my healing place.  My happy place. It’s the place where I fill up my emotional reserves (which are now entering the red warning zone indicating that I am almost out of fuel and will soon be operating on fumes) and also let all of the kinks and stress knots in my body unwind and hopefully disappear. This is my wordy way of telling you that I am going on vacation and intend to… Read More

Malala Day – #StrongerThan

Today is not just any Monday in July. It is July 14:  Malala Day.  A day of celebrating inner strength and courage. I find strength through my connections with my family, friends and my faith and I hope you too have figured out your own emotional support system that helps you sustain a spirit of hope and get to the other side of those tough and challenging times that life sends our way. Malala Yousafzai Besides those core resources, I also draw strength from other people that I have never met and don’t know personally at all.  Other people that… Read More
