A Meaningful Monday

Hey there Resilient Readers! It’s Monday!

While I too am saying “Uggg!”, I also am reminding myself that today is not a day to be hurried along just because it’s a Monday.

Mondays always painfully remind me that the weekend has ended, but Monday can be a signal that a new week is at hand and the time is now.

No day of the week can be taken for granted for we have no idea what life holds for us.

Back To The Garden

My son and I recently spent a Sunday afternoon meandering around the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens in Richmond, Virginia and it reminded me once again of the importance of taking time to immerse yourself in the calming and healing beauty of nature. I was not particularly stressed out when we entered the spectacular gardens but after walking around among the themed gardens and gentle water fountains for about ten minutes, I found myself slowing down and suddenly stopping on the path to take a deep breath and truly look and listen to where I was at that moment.  We sat… Read More

Mornings of Good Karma

Wednesday night I was so tired I forgot to set my alarm clock.  Needless to say, I overslept by a half hour.  I must say I felt more rested Thursday morning than I usually do but that extra thirty minutes of sleep put me behind in the things that I usually do in the morning to ready to go to work. I looked at the clock and asked myself, “Do you really need to do all of those things this morning?  Would the world fall apart if you happened to do them later in the day?” I decided that some… Read More

Danny Meyer Photo Courtesy BravoTV I have never met Danny Meyer but I have eaten at two of his infamous restaurants in Manhattan: Shack Shack, which now has a location in Washington, D.C., and serves great juicy burgers and tasty crinkle french fries and Blue Smoke which offers fantastic Southern food, especially barbecue. Danny Meyer is the author of an insightful book, “Setting The Table” and owner and founder of 10 outstanding restaurants in New York City.  Business is so good at his restaurants that most of them remain open today since the first day he opened them for business.  … Read More

Five Lessons From the Marvelous Mindy Kaling

Dear Resilient Readers, I write a lot about the need to rebuild or recreate our lives after experiencing a loss or traumatic life event because it can be frightening and something people would rather not discuss.  In hopes of helping others, I have written about what worked for me but I also try to pass along helpful anecdotes from people who have worked hard to put themselves on that same healing path. I know for myself that the secret to finding a new way to live my life after my husband died was in taking each day, and sometimes each… Read More

Creative Healing

Photo By Patti RaabBlue Grotto Isle of Capri I find the word healing to be a comforting word.  You know how there are some words that when you say them or read them they just make you feel better, more peaceful?  Well, that’s the way that I feel about the word healing. When I think about healing, I feel as though I have softly placed a cozy blanket around myself.  Protected.  I could be with someone I care about or I could be by myself.  But when I think about coming to a place of healing I think about using… Read More

Be Bold Today

Monday. I know Mondays can be painful. Today was one of those Monday mornings when I turned and looked at the alarm clock and just cursed it something nasty because I wasn’t  ready to get up and go.  Today I have an early appointment and needed to get out of bed to start my morning routine earlier than usual so maybe that’s why I’m feeling a bit cranky but still, time is precious and I am committed to making this a productive day. For no day is a day that should be hurried along.  Monday needs to roll out at… Read More

A Fabulous Friday Mindset

October 17th, 2014

By the time Friday arrives on my doorstep, I am usually ready to attack a pint of ice cream, preferably Ben & Jerry’s chocolate chip cookie dough. I sometimes allow myself this indulgence because after all it’s Friday and I’m using the ice cream as a way of patting myself on the back for having survived the turmoil of another work week.  I wouldn’t say that eating a pint of ice cream is healing in the classic sense, but it certainly heals my soul at a time when I need it. But also know it’s not good for me.  That… Read More
